Abstract

The tool includes a housing, a head extending from a first end and a handle coupled to a second end. An interface module is coupled to the housing between the two ends. The interface module includes a switch for transmission of a signal when force is applied to the handle in the direction of the head. A transducer beam may be disposed in the housing and coupled to the head. A torque block may be coupled to the transducer beam. A method includes transmitting, by a tool engaged with a first portion of an item (such as a hydraulic coupling), a first signal indicating that the tool is in use in response to a thrust force being applied to the tool in a direction towards the first portion of the item; receiving, by a controller, the first signal; determining, by the controller, whether the tool was in use during application of torque to a second portion of the item by a torque application tool. A system for reducing error on application of torque uses a processor and memory to implement the method. The tool helps reduce twisting of the first portion relative to the second portion when torque is applied.
