Abstract
255,810. Popov, V. July 24, 1925, [Convention date]. Sheet-separators.-Sheets are fed to packing or printing machines by means of a suction member 16 on a lever 6 which is oscillated by a cam 4 on a shaft 3 driven from the packing &c. machine. To prevent double feed the edges of the separated sheets are acted on by resilient combs 18 formed with teeth which are inclined at an angle a to the horizontal plane of the top sheet, and inclined also to the vertical edge of the pile of sheets. As the sucker 16 raises the top sheet, it passes in succession past the teeth of the comb, and any sheets adhering to the top sheet are separated therefrom by the successive action of the teeth. Pile supports for sheet feeds.-The pile 9 is carried by chains 41 which are moved intermittently by mechanism controlled by the movement of the lever 6. The lever 6 is returned to the pile by the action of a spring 13, and when the pile needs raising a depending slide 30 is raised by lever 6 and releases a spring-controlled finger 25 of a coupling member 24 and couples a drum 22 to a sprocket 8 driven from the camshaft 3 and normally rotating freely on the drum 22. The drum 22 is thus rotated one revolution and actuates a freely-mounted segment fitted with a pawl 35 which rotates a sprocket wheel 40 around which the chain 41 passes. The pile is thus raised a distance equal to the thickness of four or five sheets, and the slide 30 is caused to descend into the path of the finger 25 and the coupling 24 is thrown out of gear until the pileneeds to be raised again
