Abstract
Devices mounted on the handlebars of cycles allow cyclists to communicate by pushing a button rather than verbally. When activated, a device transmits a signal to a similar device mounted on another bicycle. Upon receiving the signal, the second device displays an alert relating to their optimal speed. The alert may comprise LEDs.

(54) Title of the Invention: Road cycling domestique indicator/signal Abstract Title: Cycling alert system (57) Devices mounted on the handlebars of cycles allow cyclists to communicate by pushing a button rather than verbally. When activated, a device transmits a signal to a similar device mounted on another bicycle. Upon receiving the signal, the second device displays an alert relating to their optimal speed. The alert may comprise LEDs.
Title
Road cycling communication device
Background
Road cycling has become predominantly a team activity. Cycling in a group with the objective of attaining the highest possible speeds involves working together and taking turns to cycle at the front of the group thus facing the bulk of the air resistance while the other cyclists benefit from the air displacement. When a group is cycling in single file at maximal speeds, communication concerning the optimal pace becomes difficult particularly in high winds or for an individual respiring heavily. The individual who rides at the front of the group is often called a domestique and in a competitive scenario the rider(s) following him often find it advantageous to shout instructions to him concerning their optimal speed. Cyclists are comfortable using a variety of buttons positioned at intervals along their handlebars.
Statement of Invention
The domestique indicator is a very simple device allowing two cyclists in a group to communicate concerning their optimal speed by pushing a button rather than verbally. It consists of a button attached and positioned ergonomically on the handlebars of Cyclist A: the button activates a signal and simple indication (LED or otherwise) on the handlebars of Cyclist B.
Advantages
Cyclist A may find that despite the air displacement effected by Cyclist B at the front of the group, a reduction in speed is nevertheless required if Cyclist A is to remain part of the group. In these circumstances it is preferable for Cyclist A to push a button rather than being required to shout.

Claims (1)
- ClaimA signal of any kind compatible with the functioning of the device activated by a button designed to be attached to the handlebars of a bicycle whereby the signal is then transmitted to a corresponding device attached to a separate bicycle resulting in an indication of any kind appearing on said separate bicycle.IntellectualPropertyOfficeApplication No: GB1621316.7 Examiner: Mr Ralph PlowmanClaims searched: 1 Date of search: 14 July 2017Patents Act 1977: Search Report under Section 17Documents considered to be relevant:
