Trophy Assembly
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to trophy assemblies and in particular to trophy assemblies comprising component parts that are assembled by trophy dealers.
Background of the Invention
Trophies typically comprise a base, onto which is mounted an upper, decorative part such as a cup or figurine, optionally with additional risers or columns therebetween. A typical trophy assembly is illustrated in Figure 1. The trophy is assembled, and held together, by a rod member 10 which passes through a bore 11 in the trophy base 12. The rod member 10 is provided with opposite upper and lower threaded end portions 13 and 14. A sleeve 15 is provided with two internally threaded openings 19, 20. The lower opening 19 of the sleeve 15 is provided with an internal thread corresponding to the external thread of the end portion 14 of the rod member 10. The upper end of the rod member 10 passes through a decorative hollow column or riser element 16 and through the opening 18 of an upper lid 17. The upper end portion 14 of the rod 10 is then screwed into the threaded opening 19 of the sleeve 15. The figurine 22 has a base 21 with a threaded projection 23 depending therefrom which is screwed into the upper end 20 of the sleeve 15. The rod member 10 is then secured to the base 12 by a nut 24 which is screwed onto the threaded end portion 13 of the rod member 10. The nut 24 will be located in a recess (not shown) in the bottom surface of the base 12.
Different risers, figurines, and/or cups can be connected to different bases allowing a number of different trophies to be created. The assembling of the trophy typically either takes place at the trophy sales outlet, or at the trophy distributor. It is a time consuming task since all of the different elements must be first threaded onto the rod, and then must be properly aligned with the base. Aligning the different parts of the trophy usually requires adjustment of the nut underneath the base after all of the parts have been joined together.
It would be desirable to provide an improved trophy assembly that reduces the time taken to assemble trophies of this nature.
Summary of the Invention
According to the invention there is provided a trophy assembly comprising a base and at least one decorative element, wherein:
the base includes a female connector socket;
the decorative element is connectable to the base using a male connector shaped to be received within the female connector socket;
wherein one of the male connector and the female connector socket has a mating surface provided with at least one protrusion and the other has a mating surface provided with at least one indent;
and wherein the at least one protrusion and the at least one indent are configured such that male connector passes into the female connector socket when pushed in a direction towards the base and the at least one protrusion is held in the at least one indent when the male connector is pulled in a direction away from the base.
The arrangement of the male connector/female socket enables a decorative element to be quickly and easily attached to a base to form a trophy assembly The configuration of protrusions and indents allow a secure connection of the decorative element to the base.
The male connector may form part of the decorative element.
Alternatively, the male connector may form part of a separate connector piece and the decorative element may include a bore. The male connector has a maximum diameter smaller than the diameter of the bore, allowing the male connector to pass through the bore. At least a part of the connector piece has a diameter larger than the diameter of the bore. The connector piece connects the decorative element to the base using the secure male/female connectors.
The male connector may be provided with at least one protrusion.
The female connector socket may be provided with at least one indent.
The at least one protrusion may be in the form of a barb.
The at least one indent may be in the form of a notch.
The decorative element may be selected from the group comprising: figurines, cups, risers, columns, pedestals and other trophy toppers.
The invention provides an improved trophy assembly that reduces the time taken to assemble trophies made up of several component parts.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments
Referring now to Figures 2a, 2b, 3a and 3b, a trophy assembly includes a base 30 provided with a female connector socket 32 (shown more clearly in Figure 3). A connector piece 42 includes a male connector 34 provided with a plurality of annular barbs 36. The trophy assembly optionally includes a washer 38 to be located in between the connector piece and the base 30. The internal walls of the female connector socket 32 are provided with a plurality of ridges or notches 40. The male connector 34 and female connector socket 32 are shaped to fit together. The barbs 36 and notches 40 are configured such that they slide past each other only in one direction. In this example, the barbs 36 on the male connector 34 are shaped such that the barbs 36 pass over the notches 40 when the male connector 34 is pushed towards the base 30, but when the male connector 34 is pulled in the opposite direction the barbs 36 catch in the notches 40 preventing removal of the male connector from the base 30.
In this example the male connector 34 forms part of a connector piece 42 which comprises a disc shaped portion 42 with a diameter larger than that of the male connector 34. As shown, die connector piece 42 may be formed in two parts, a lower part 42 which includes the male connector 34, and an upper part 44 which clips onto the lower part 42 as shown in Figure 3b.
Figures 4a, 4b, 5a and 5b illustrate a trophy assembly provided with a decorative cup 46. The base of the cup 46 is provided with a bore 50 through which the male connector 34 can be pushed. The bore 50 has a diameter larger than the male connector 34 but smaller than the diameter of the lower part of the connector piece 42. An additional washer 48 may be located between the cup 46 and the connector piece 42. The male connector 34 is pushed into the female connector socket 34 in the base 30 as shown in Figure 5b and this securely connects the cup 46 to the base 30. As before, the mating of the barbs 36 of the male connector 42 with the notches 40 of the female connector socket 34 prevent the removal of the connector piece 42, and hence the cup 46 from the base 30.
The connector piece 42 may be used in this way to connect any decorative element to a trophy base 30 where the decorative element includes a bore through which the male connector 34 can be passed.
Alternatively, the decorative element may be provided with a male connector and attached directly to the base as shown in Figures 6a and 6b. In this example a decorative cup 50 is provided directly with a male connector 34 which is inserted into the female connector socket 34 of the base 30 as shown in Figure 6b.
