Energy-absorbing elements.- Chain-wneels, belt pulleys, and other members formed in two parts, the inner 2 of which is cylindrical and may be used as a brake drum and the cuter 6 is of L- or T-section, have the parts rigidly secured together by soldering and shrinking. For this purpose, two different solders are used on the two parts, that on the outer having the higher melting point, so that when the parts are treated, as by dipping, with melted solder, the temperature of the outer part is the higher and the parts can be shrunk toegther at the same time that they are soldered.
