Abstract

An electrical power adapter 300 is capable of being connected to a power socket on a wall, similar to a wall mounted plug, and for securely and releasably holding at least two mobile devices for charging. The adapter comprises a housing 310 which has electrical power plug pins 375 extending therefrom, these pins are intended to be connected to the power socket; the housing also has at least two cradles 350 for securely and releasably holding the mobile devices; the housing also has at two charging connectors (example in 270, figure 2) for charging the mobile devices, that are connected by conductors to the power plug pins (375, figure 3). Another aspect of the invention comprises a housing that is a rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape, with the longest axis being parallel to the floor below the wall. The adapter may also have no external power cords, cables, and/or these cords or cables are located within the housing. In another aspect there are also no exposed wires or cables used for charging.

Description

APPARATUS
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to an apparatus.
In particular, the present invention relates to a wall mounting power adapter socket. Background of the invention
According to US9124105, wireless charging mats have been manufactured that claim to eliminate the clutter associated with chargers and cords; this clutter is reportedly referred to some as “black spaghetti”. The device of US 9124105 reports to provide a wireless charging shelf for electronic devices that eliminates the electronic clutter found on many counter, desk and other surfaces. However, the device of US9124105 suffers from some drawbacks. It is expensive to manufacture. It is only suited for charging one mobile phone at a time. It also does not retain the mobile phone being charged in a secure manner.
The present invention seeks to provide an apparatus that allows the user to charge more than one mobile phone at a time and wherein each mobile phone is held in a secure manner.
The present invention also seeks to provide an apparatus that is inexpensive to manufacture.
Summary of the invention
In a broad aspect, the present invention provides an electrical power adapter that is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter has no exposed wires or cables for charging said at least two mobile devices.

In each case, it is highly preferred that the electrical power adapter has no exposed wires or cables for charging said at least two mobile devices.
In each case, it is also highly preferred that the electrical power adapter has no exposed wires or cables.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins (sometimes referred to as blades) for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided an electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing; wherein the electrical power adapter is operably connected to an electrical power socket located in or on a wall.
According to a third aspect of the present invention there is provided an electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing; wherein the electrical power adapter has at least two mobile devices securely and releasably held on said adapter.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention there is provided an electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing; wherein the electrical power adapter has at least two mobile devices being charged on said adapter.
The present invention is different from each of the devices disclosed in each of US5780993, US6514093B, US6982542B, US8378625B, US8794997B, US20120052742A and US20130244475A. US5780993 claims a combination charger and power source for an electrically powered device having a removable battery pack that includes one or more batteries enclosed within a case having a mechanical connector for removably mechanically attaching the battery pack to the device, and an electrical connector for electrically connecting the batteries to the device when the battery pack is mechanically attached to the device, comprising: a case having a mechanical connector adapted to engage the mechanical connector of the battery pack to attach the battery pack to the charger; an electrical connector adapted to make an electrical connection to the battery pack when the battery pack is attached to the charger; a recess in the case; an integral plug in the recess and pivotally attached to the case for movement between an extended position permitting the charger to be plugged directly into a conventional AC connector, and a recessed position substantially within the recess; and a connector for supplying power from a battery attached to the charger directly to the device, for supplying power from the power source to the device when no battery is attached, or the battery has insufficient charge to operate the device.
According to its abstract, US6514093B is directed to an improved design of a structure of a wall mounting power adapter socket to increase the number of outlets essentially by arranging all units of outlets on the surface of the socket casing in a longitudinal line so that only one stripe each of a fire Wire adaptive piece an earth wire and a grounding prong are required with each strip extending below each unit of pins for compact structure and cost reduction.
According to its abstract, US6982542B is directed to an accessory for use with mobile telephones. The accessory comprises a support body defining compartments within which mobile telephones and mobile telephone chargers can be held. The compartments for holding telephone chargers are each associated with a socket arrangement that can receive the contact pins of a telephone charger, all the socket arrangements being electrically connected with one another and being connectable to an electricity power supply. The accessory permits a plurality of mobile telephones to be simultaneously held therein and to be charged via their chargers from a single electricity power supply.
According to its abstract, US8378625B is directed to a device for mounting a mobile electronic device to an alternating current charger is provided. The mount allows the user to charge a mobile electronic device with the alternating current charger provided by the original equipment manufacturer of the mobile electronic device. The mount also protects the mobile electronic device from damage.
According to its abstract, US8794997B is directed to a wall outlet type USB hub with independent charging function includes a mounting case and a combined USB hub and socket unit. The mounting case includes a rear case portion for mounting on a wall and a front case portion assembled to a front opening of the rear case portion. The combined USB hub and socket unit includes a housing member held in the mounting case via retaining means and having multiple openings; a printed circuit board located inside the housing member and having a power module and a hub module; multiple data transfer ports electrically connected to the hub module and aligned with the openings on the housing member; and a power connector electrically connected to the power module. The wall outlet type USB hub matches general wall outlet's cover plate specification and can replace existing AC wall outlet to enable both data transmission and DC power supply functions.
According to its abstract, US20120052742A is directed to electrical extension sockets, and more particularly to a detachable electrical extension sockets having plurality of individual electrical extension sockets which are detachable with one another. Each of the electrical extension sockets is having male and female connectors. The male and female connectors are arranged in such a way to compliment each other to form extension. In addition, each electrical extension socket is provided with a printed circuit board (PCB) to replace wires for connection for delivering electricity from a power supply to a power plug connected from an electrical appliance.
According to its abstract, US20130244475A is directed to a system, method, and apparatus for charging electronics with a universal serial bus (USB) charging cable connected to a USB port. The USB port is located entirely behind a wall having a wall outlet. The USB charging cable and its connectors can easily be retracted into the wall for storage or extended outside the wall to a USB powered device. A plurality of USB charging cables can be installed in one wall outlet, such as one USB charging cable having a Micro-USB plug and one USB charging cable having an Apple 30 pin connector. The wall outlet can also have an AC outlet as well, such that the wall outlet can charge most electronic devices sold in the market today. The wall outlet allows the user to charge USB powered devices even when the user does not have his USB cord with him.
Advantages
The present invention provides a number of advantages.
For example, the apparatus of the present invention allows the user to charge more than one mobile phone at a time and wherein each mobile phone is held in a secure manner.
By having a number of mobile devices in one location for the charging thereof allows the user to control the usuage of one or more mobile devices. For example, this is particularly advantageous for a parent or guardian wishing to monitor use of mobile phones at, for example, the night time.
In addition, the apparatus of the present invention has no external power cords, cable or wire. This limits any accidental entrapment by feet or legs etc of passers by when the mobile devices are being charged.
In addition, the apparatus of the present invention eliminates the presence of any external power cords, cable or wire; thereby effectively eliminating any “black spaghetti” in a relatively convenient manner.
In addition, the apparatus of the present invention has no external power cords, cable or wire. This limits any accidental entrapment by feet or legs etc of passers by when the mobile devices are being charged.
In addition, the apparatus of the present invention is relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
In addition, there are no exposed wires or cables for charging said at least two mobile devices thereby eliminating any “black spaghetti” in a relatively convenient manner.

Preferred aspects
For some embodiments, the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall is capable of delivering main electricity to the electrical power adapter.
For some embodiments, the electrical power adapter comprises one or more power transformers located within the housing for converting the main electricity power to a suitable power for charging the mobile devices.
For some embodiments, the primary electrical plug pins are located towards one end of the electrical power adapter and extend away from the back side of the electrical power adapter and away from the front side of the electrical power adapter.
For some embodiments, the primary electrical plug pins are located towards or at the middle of the electrical power adapter and extend away from the back side of the electrical power adapter and away from the front side of the electrical power adapter.
For some embodiments, the primary electrical plug pins are beatable from a position being towards one end of the electrical power adapter and extend away from the back side of the electrical power adapter and away from the front side of the electrical power adapter to a position being located towards or at the middle of the electrical power adapter and extend away from the back side of the electrical power adapter and away from the front side of the electrical power adapter.
For some embodiments, the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least three mobile devices.
For some embodiments, the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least four mobile devices.
For some embodiments, the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least five mobile devices.
For some embodiments, at least one of mobile devices is a mobile phone.
For some embodiments, at least two of mobile devices is a mobile phone.
For some embodiments, each of the mobile devices is a mobile phone.
The mobile phones may be the same or different.
For some embodiments, the cradles may be changeable. This allows the user to modify the electrical power adapter to accommodate different mobile devices when models are replaced.

For some embodiments, the electrical power adapter provides at least one universal serial bus (USB) charger located on and in the housing.
For some embodiments, the at least one USB charger is located at one end of the housing.
For some embodiments, the electrical power adapter is of a modular design, allowing the user to operably connect two or more electrical power adapters together to enable the user to charge more mobile devices than just the number allowed by one of the modular electrical power adapter.
For some embodiments, if the electrical power adapter is of a modular design, then the electrical power adapter may be operably joined to another electrical power adapter of a modular design by means of releasable engagements means.

According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided an electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing; wherein the housing of the electrical power adapter is substantially of a rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape; wherein the primary electrical plug pins are located towards or at the middle of the electrical power adapter and extend away from the back side of the electrical power adapter and away from the front side of the electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least three mobile devices; wherein each of the mobile devices is a mobile phone; wherein each primary charging connector located within the confines of each respective cradle; wherein the housing of the electrical power adapter comprises at least one secondary power socket capable of receiving a tertiary electrical power plug for delivery of electrical power from the primary electrical plug pins to the tertiary power plug; wherein the secondary power socket is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of secondary electrical connectors; and wherein the secondary electrical connectors are located within the housing; wherein all of the mobile devices are capable of being securely and releasably held and charged in a series along the longest axis of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape.

Examples
The present invention will now be described byway of example only.
In each of the following examples, the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall. Also, the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices. In addition, the electrical power adapter has no exposed wires or cables for charging said at least two mobile devices.
Example 1
This Example is exemplified with the embodiment shown in Figure 1 - which is a front side view of an electrical power adapter according to the present invention.

In this example, the electrical power adapter (100) is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket (not shown) located in or on a wall (not shown). The electrical power adapter (100) is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices (not shown). The electrical power adapter (100) comprises a housing (110). The housing (110) has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins (not shown) for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket (not shown) located in or on a wall (not shown). The housing (110) comprises three cradles (150a, 150b and 150c). The cradles (150a, 150b and 150c) can be the same or different and each is configured and/or structured to be capable of securely and releasably holding a mobile device (not shown). Typically the cradles (150a, 150b and 150c) can be of any shape. In this example, the three cradles (150a, 150b and 150c) are represented as bowl shaped structures (160a, 160b and 160c). Each primary charging connector (470a, 470b and 470c) is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins (not shown) by means of primary electrical connectors (not shown); wherein each primary electrical connector (not shown) is located within the housing (410). The housing (410) of the electrical power adapter (400) is substantially of a rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape. The primary electrical plug pins (not shown) are located towards or at the middle of the electrical power adapter (440) and extend away from the back side (not shown) of the electrical power adapter (400) and away from the front side (430) of the electrical power adapter (400). Whilst the mobile device can be any mobile device, a preferred device is a mobile phone (490a, 490b, 490c). The housing of the electrical power adapter may comprise at least one secondary power socket (not shown) capable of receiving a tertiary electrical power plug (not shown) for delivery of electrical power from the primary electrical plug pins (not shown) to the tertiary power plug (not shown); wherein the secondary power socket (not shown) is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins (not shown) by means of secondary electrical connectors (not shown); and wherein the secondary electrical connectors (not shown) are located within the housing (410). In this example, all of the mobile devices (490a, 490b, 490c) are securely and releasably held and charged in a series along the longest axis (420) of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape; wherein all of the mobile devices (490a, 490b, 490c) are securely and releasably held and charged on the upper face of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape. In use the longest axis (420) of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape is parallel to the floor (not shown) below the wall (not shown). The electrical power adapter (400) has a power indicator (480) to indicate to the user that electrical power is being delivered to the electrical power adapter (400). The electrical power adapter (400) has no external power cords, cables and wires and/or wherein any power cords, cables, and wires are located within the housing and are not readily accessible.

Claims (18)

Claims
1. An electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing.
2. The electrical power adapter according to claim 1 wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least three mobile devices.
3. The electrical power adapter according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least four mobile devices.
4. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least five mobile devices.
5. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein at least one of mobile devices is a mobile phone.
6. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein at least two of mobile devices is a mobile phone.
7. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein each of the mobile devices is a mobile phone.
8. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the cradles are changeable.
9. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein each primary charging connector located within the confines of each respective cradle.
10. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the housing of the electrical power adapter comprises at least one secondary power socket capable of receiving a tertiary electrical power plug.
11. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the housing of the electrical power adapter is substantially of a rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape.
12 An electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter comprises a housing; wherein the housing has extending therefrom primary electrical plug pins for operable engagement with the primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the housing comprises at least two cradles; wherein each cradle is capable of securely and releasably holding at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein the housing has extending therefrom at least two primary charging connectors; wherein each primary charging connector is for the charging of at least one of the at least two mobile devices; wherein each primary charging connector is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of primary electrical connectors; wherein each primary electrical connector is located within the housing; wherein the housing of the electrical power adapter is substantially of a rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape; wherein the primary electrical plug pins are located towards or at the middle of the electrical power adapter and extend away from the back side of the electrical power adapter and away from the front side of the electrical power adapter; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least three mobile devices; wherein each of the mobile devices is a mobile phone; wherein each primary charging connector located within the confines of each respective cradle; wherein the housing of the electrical power adapter comprises at least one secondary power socket capable of receiving a tertiary electrical power plug for delivery of electrical power from the primary electrical plug pins to the tertiary power plug; wherein the secondary power socket is operably connected to the primary electrical plug pins by means of secondary electrical connectors; and wherein the secondary electrical connectors are located within the housing; wherein all of the mobile devices are capable of being securely and releasably held and charged in a series along the longest axis of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape; wherein all of the mobile devices are capable of being securely and releasably held and charged on the upper face of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape; wherein in use the longest axis of the rectangular cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape is parallel to the floor below the wall; wherein the electrical power adapter has no external power cords, cables and wires and/or wherein any power cords, cables, and wires are located within the housing and are not readily accessible.
13. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the electrical power adapter is operably connected to an electrical power socket located in or on a wall.
14. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the electrical power adapter has at least two mobile devices securely and releasably held on said adapter.
15. The electrical power adapter according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the electrical power adapter has at least two mobile devices being charged on said adapter.
16. An electrical power adapter that is capable of being operably connected to a primary electrical power socket located in or on a wall; wherein the electrical power adapter is capable of securely and releasably holding and charging at least two mobile devices; wherein the electrical power adapter has no exposed wires or cables for charging said at least two mobile devices.
17. The electrical power adapter according to claim 16 wherein the electrical power adapter is the electrical power adapter according to any one of claims 1 to 15.
18. The electrical power adapter substantially as described herein and with reference to the accompanying figures.
