Abstract

A weather resistant tape dispenser comprises a plurality of reels 9 holding the tape11 within a weather resilient enclosure 8. A folding crank handle (16, 17, fig 3) winds the tape back onto the reel, and a mechanism (20, fig 3) fixed at the slot 12 smooths the tape. The enclosure may be attached to a fence post, wall or wooden pole.

Description

Paddock Maker
Bi€kgrouricl
This invention relates to the dispensing, recoiling end storage of electric "polytspe" fencing.
During the grooving seasons> gracing paddocks for livestock are divided Into sections to control their diet and allow rest/growing periods for the grass. This is usually controlled via temporary electric fencing. Several tapes are strung between two points supported by insulated posts and electrified, When this tape is taken down the general r^iethod of removal is to coil the lengths of tape around ones arm like a washing line. This degrades the effectiveness of the tape because of knots, kinks and broken wl.i'es {which are sharp'p when unwound, which leads to poor performarice or premature failure.
Statement of Invention
The purpose of this invention Is to dlspen.se or recoil multiple lines of poiytape in one action and store in good working condition in a weather resistant enclosure.
Advantages
The controlled and combined coiling of multlpie lines of poiytape in one action, will make It easy and quicker to dispense or recoil, safe to handle, maintain conductive effectiveness with the added benefit of weather resistant storage.
Preferably, the poiytape will be on interchangeahle reels with a choice of both rtumber and widths of polvmape used.
Preferably, the unit will be available in various sires to acconsmodate different tape lengths.
Preferably the unit will have an easiiy removable yet weather sealed, access cover to aid the loading/swapping out of the poiytape.
Preferably, the unit will be geared to reduce the recoil time.
Preferably, the unit wili be fstted with mechanisms to keep the tapes flat and kink free. {Separate patent application)
Preferably the u.nit will he weather resistant so that it may be left out all year round if so desired.
Preferabiy ^ crank handle with storage hole, 1) To stop livestock harming themselves on the protrusion and 2) To lock the dispersed tape at the required length.
Preferably the unit wil! be mountable directly to a wooden post Or was!.
Preferably the u.nit will be able to fix osito stasidard piastlc fencing posts via a separate imounting accessory.
An example of the inventfon will now bs described fey referring, ίο the drawings attached.
Figure 1 shows an example of the reels wfhich fits Inside the unit.
Figure 2 shows the Internal view of the main unit Figure 3 shows the external view of the main unit
Figure 4 shows the unit attached to posts, a wail or plastic elsctric fencing posts.
Detailed descriptien.
Figure: 1,
There will be three sizes of reel 1, pre wound with 2 - 33,3 - 66 or 4 - 99mts of the polytape, which will fee avaiiable in widths of either 5 - 20mm or 6 - 40mm. The reels, which have a square hols through the centre 7, are ln.serted into the main unit onto s square drive shaft in any of the foilowing combinations to suit the user's requirerrients; 1 x 20.ηηη, 2 x 20mm, 3 ,x 20mm,, 1 x 40mm, 2 x -iiOmm, 1X 20 r IX 40mm, 2 x 20 +1 x 40. Tape Is dispensed from the unit by placing the crank handle in the operating position and pulling on all the tapes slmulianeou, sly while walking to the .point where they are to be connected. The reels are free to spin and dispense the tape. When in position they can then be hooked Into temporary plastic posts between the two points, the crank handle is put into the lock position and the tapes can then be placed into insulators on the posts and tightened. When finished with, the taps is unhooked from all post and insulators and allowed to lay on the ground while the crank handle is turned to rscoil the tape.
Figure 2,
This shows the inside of the main housing unit 8. The desired number/widths of tape reels 9 are loaded into the unit via the side opening cover iO and the ends of the polytape .11 are pushed through the corresponding positioned holes in the housing body 12, sliding the centre of the reels onto the drive shaft 14 as they are inserted. An appropriate spacer Is used to fill the remaining gap, if any, which stops arjy misalignment of tape to the outlet holes. The cover 10 is then placed over the four .mounting screw guides 15 and centre drive shaft 14 and secured in place over the reels in the rebated edges of the side walls 13 to fo.nn a weather seal.
Figure 3.
Tlie crank handie 15 is shown in the operating position but may be fiipped over and the knob 17 on the end of the handle then fits Into a recess 18 in the body of the main unit 8 to iock/stop the tape 11 from puHing out and aiss to stop livestock harming themseives on it, A tape straightening device 20 is fitted to each tape exit point so that when the poiytape is rewound any kinks or twists in the poiytape are removed. A gear box 19 Is fitted to reduce rewind time. The unit has a variety of mounting options/posit ions so as to restrict the chance of livestock from harming themseives on the unit. Screws can be inserted through sleeved fsxing points IS for sideways mounting onto wooden poies or through brackets on the rear of the unit 21 for forward mounting on either poles or masonry.
Figure 4.
Figure 4a shows the unit mounted via the front two mounting points on a wooden pole where there is space for the unit behind the poie le. up against a hedge, iow waii or corner of a field, keeping it away from livestock as much as possible.
Figure 4b shows the unit mounted via the back mounting points on a wooden pole where there is no space behind the pole i.e, up against a waii.
Figure 4c shows the unit mounted via the rear brackets on either a pole or a waii.
Figure 4d shows the unit mounted via an optional bracket onto two standard plastic electric fencing posts used where there are no poies/waiis or where they are required in the middle of a field.
