Abstract

An end effector 100 for a robot comprising a threaded shaft 118, a motor 106 coupled to the shaft 118 and configured to rotate the shaft about its axis, a nut 122 threaded onto the shaft, means 124 for preventing the nut from rotating about the axis of the shaft, and an elongate member 126 fixed at one end to the nut and extending from the nut in a direction parallel to the axis of the shaft. In use, the nut moves linearly along the threaded shaft, thereby causing the elongate member to move in a direction which is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The end effector may further comprise a container 142 for containing a fluid 148 with body portion comprising an opening 150 at one end and a plunger 146 which couples to a second end of the elongate member. The end effector is used to discharge or dispense fluids and is ideally a dispenser which combines two fluids 148, 158. The end effector may further comprise sensor 128 and a mixer 114 for combining two fluids from two containers 142, 144. The end effector may form part of a system with a controller.
