Abstract

254,649. Vogel, J. M., and Plaut, C. S. March 22, 1926. Colour scales,-Comprises a colour chart system whereby the shades, grays or tints of any colour may be determined and defined numerically for purposes of reference. The whole series of colours is divided into thirty-six primary colours, Fig. 1, of a purity of tone of 100 per cent. To obtain a shade of the colour selected it is mixed with its complementary or opposite primary colour, and to obtain a gray or tint thereof it is mixed with white. The oppositely arranged colours when mixed will neutralize to produce black. For each colour is provided a card, Fig. 2, divided horizontally and vertically into ten divisions. The square numbered 100 represents the primary colour, e.g. yellow, and the squares 100 - - 91 are tints formed by mixing white with the primary colour in definite proportions. Shades of these tints are obtained by mixing in definite proportions quantities of the complementary colour, in this case, violet until a black, 10 is produced at one end of the upper row and grays towards the other end of that row. It is stated that any colour may, by means of this set of cards, be indented and indicated numerically.
