Description

MEDIA CONTENT SHARING BETWEEN USERS HAVING ASSOCIATED CONTENT PLATFORMS FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates generally to a method and system for media content sharing between users having associated content platforms, and more particularly to a method and system for active user media content sharing and passive system generated media content sharing of music or audio files with user comments between users having different associated media content providers, social media communication sources, and streaming channels.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The recent emergence of multiple media content providers and streaming services accessible on networks such as the Internet has resulted in a significant fragmentation of the on-demand media content market such as the music access market. Such services include service silos such as downloading services, active streaming, passive streaming, social media sites and the like. Users can potentially use one or more of the available services to access the same piece of media content, such as music tracks, in various ways. That presents a significant problem for services which require identification of a unique piece of media content to perform certain tasks such as identifying and retrieving particular media content from a particular provider. For example, if a user posts a music track onto, for example a social media application service, from one content provider for other users, the other users may only be able to access the music track if they subscribe to the same content provider as the user sharing the track. Other users subscribed to other content providers are denied access to the posted music track.
Music and entertainment dominate social media activity. However, the technical problems discussed above, restrict accessing and commenting on shared content media such as music tracks in real time in an online environment.
There is a need for a method and system for media content sharing between users having associated content platforms across different media content providers and services that address or at least alleviate some of the problems and/or limitations discussed above.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A first aspect of the invention is a method of media content sharing between users having associated content platforms, the method comprising registering registration requests from a plurality of users, each user having at least one associated content platform; generating a user profile of each user identifying each content platform associated with each user; processing a request from a group creator user for creating a group associated with a topic; processing requests from group users within the plurality of users to join the group, the group members formed of the group users and the group creator; and distributing media content to each group member in a format of the respective associated content platform associated with each group member.
In an embodiment the method further comprises receiving an active user media content in a format with an associated content platform from a group member; and distributing the active user media content to each group member in a format of the respective associated content platform associated with each group member. The method may further comprise distributing a passive system media content to each group member in a format of the respective associated content platform associated with each group member. The passive system media content may be derived from social dynamics within the plurality of users. The passive system media content may be selected from another group with the most common group members from a plurality of groups. The passive system media content may be derived from a play list chart of the group. The passive system media content may be derived from a play list chart of the group creator.
In an embodiment the method further comprise generating a feed for each user of each shared media content and comments. The method may further comprise generating a feed for each group of each shared media content and comments. Each feed for each user may comprise each shared media content and comments shared by the user and each shared media content shared in each group the user is group member. The feed may be time sorted.
In an embodiment the passive system media content is distributed to users in a discovery feed. The discovery feed may be context sorted. The method may further comprise receiving a user request for additional detailed information of an item on the discovery feed; and providing additional information card to the user. The method may further comprise allowing the user to access the content of the discovery feed. The method may further comprise allowing the user to share the content of the discovery feed. The method may further comprise generating a search result in response to an active search request requested by a user.

FIG. 4 shows a the flow 100 of system generated content based on system statistics to a user device 20, then shared and viewed by the user in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The information describing the media content or tile generated and sent by the system is pushed 102 by the system to the user device. The user discovers the tile/stack 106 and accesses the media content 108 by listening or viewing the media content. The user may then share 104 the stack sent by the user with other users. The system generated tile pushed by the system to the user is mixed into the feed of the user as a stack if the user wants to share the tile with other users. Tiles and stacks are different templates for displaying and sharing media content between the system and user (tiles), and between users (stacks). The media content provided in tiles and stacks is in a format that a receiving user can access the media content in a format that is the designated format in the profile of the user. A tile is a template used by the system when media content is sent from the system to receiving users. A stack is a template used by the system when media content is sent or shared between users, i.e. when a sharing user shares media content to a receiving user. A tile is information describing media content that is generated by the system and pushed to selected users or distributed to selected groups. A stack is information describing media content that is generated within the system by the user and the user selects other users and/or groups to send the stack. A user may receive a tile from the system. Upon accessing the associated media content, the user may want to share the media content with selected users by sending a stack to the selected users and/or groups. The templates may include additional information describing media content that may include a graphic, text describing the media content or details associated with the content, links to the media content, and the like. The links to the media content are provided by the system in a format that is the user preferred format defined in the user profile of the selected user. The format may be in on format for the sharing user, and in another different format for the receiving user. This allows the sharing user and receiving user to view and access the associated media content from different providers in real time. The system then allows the sharing user and receiving user to comment in real time which provides a sharing experience of the media content between the users in real time. The links provided by the system may be links to a particular service provider and in a particular format of the associated service provider. FIG. 5 shows a stack 110 of the system in a minimized state 110 on a display of a user device in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. FIG. 11 shows a schematic diagram of a private crowd 170 of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The private crowd is created by a creator user 172. The user members 174 of the private group crowd may be able to share media content 176 to the private crowd feed. FIG. 12 shows a schematic diagram of a public crowd 180 of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The public crowd is created by the creator user 182. The user members 184 of public group crowd do not share content on the feed. Only the creator may share 186 media content on the feed of the public crowd.
In an embodiment, the system may record statistics of each user, private crowd, and public crowd. The statistics include for example favourite music tracks played, shared, commented on by each user, and users within each private crowd and public crowd, and the like. It will be appreciated that other user and group statistics may be tracked and recorded by the system. The statistics may be used in the system in the selection of recipients of users and groups of system generated tiles. FIG. 13 shows a feed 190 of a user profile of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The feed of the user profile is time based, with examples of the type of content forming a feed shown as first-fifth media content stacks shown in FIG. 13. For example, the first media content 192 shown of the user profile feed shown comprises an image file and music track from the user shared. The second media content 194 shown of the user profile feed shown in FIG. 13 comprises a stack such as an image file and music track posted from a member user that the user follows as active user media content. FIG. 15 shows an interface profile 210 on a user device of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The meta 212 is information that the system generates about the user, such as charts, counts of followers/following, awards, and the like. The content 214 displayed that the user has decided to share on the user's profile is shown as well. FIG. 16 shows a user interface crowd page 220 on a user device of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The meta data 222 is information that the system generates about the crowd, such as charts, member count, awards, and the like. Content 224 may take different forms such as that shown of an image and music track that belong in the crowd. FIG. 17 and 18 show distribution of posts. FIG. 17 shows a the distribution of a post 230 within a private crowd of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, and FIG. 18 shows a distribution of a post 240 within a public crowd of the system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. FIG. 19 shows a flow chart of a method 250 of media content sharing between users having associated content platforms of a system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The user registers 252 with the system. The system generates 254 a user profile, and each user identifies the specific content providers the user has a subscription. This will ensure the system will provide the correct format of the media content to the user. The user may create a group 256, and other users may be invited or request to join the group 258. Media content may be distributed 260 to each group member in the respective format.
The user profile generated 254 in the system is based on the user information provided by the user. A card is a system generated template, like tiles and stacks, for displaying and sharing the user profile between users and between system and users. The system then pulls or extrapolates user details that are specific to the user, such as the associated service provider of the user, the associated social media accounts of the user, browsing history of the user, playlist of the user, play history of the user, other users associated with the user, contact details, streaming profiles, access history, listening history, user statistics within the system, and the like. The user information may be pulled from the associated user profile pre-existing with other user registered social media or service provider accounts. The user information may be pulled or extrapolated from the user device storage residing on the user device that the user is accessing the system, user cloud storage accounts, the system server, other remote servers such as those associated with the service providers and/or social media, or the like. The system generated user statistics may also be displayed or accessed in the card template for the user profile. Each group also has a group profile that is created by the group creator. The card templates may also be generated based on private and/or public group profiles, and system generated group statistics may also be displayed or accessed in the card template for the group profile.
In an embodiment, the associated user information and extrapolated data may be used by the system as a source for sending tiles featuring a particular media content, such as for example a new release of a music track of an artist that the user has in their playlist. Other sources for system tile generation may be from aggregate data, context data, or the like. Aggregate data may comprise of the data profile of the user based on the user profile details. Context data may comprise of the data surrounding the media content, such as the frequency the user accesses the media content, the frequency other users access the media content, geographic location of the user, such as city, country and the like, genre, age of user, and the like. Additional data may comprise of third party intermediary data such as for example music track or album chart data, and the like.
The system uses the extrapolated data, aggregate data, context data, and the like, to deliver specific media content information with a tile to selected users and groups. This provides users with a personalized experience and a type of filter to minimize system generated tiles that are unrelated to the user or groups.

Thus, another type of media that may bear the software elements includes optical, electrical and electromagnetic waves, such as used across physical interfaces between local devices, through wired and optical landline networks and over various air-links. The physical elements that carry such waves, such as wired or wireless links, optical links or the like, also may be considered as media bearing the software. As used herein, unless restricted to tangible non-transitory "storage" media, terms such as computer or machine "readable medium" refer to any medium that participates in providing instructions to a processor for execution.
Hence, a machine readable medium may take many forms, including but not limited to, a tangible storage medium, a carrier wave medium or physical transmission medium. Non-volatile storage media include, for example, optical or magnetic disks, such as any of the storage devices in any computer(s) or the like, such as may be used to implement the data aggregator, the customer communication systems, etc. shown in the drawings. Volatile storage media include dynamic memory, such as main memory of such a computer platform. Tangible transmission media include coaxial cables; copper wire and fibre optics, including the wires that comprise a bus within a computer system. Carrier-wave transmission media can take the form of electric or electromagnetic signals, or acoustic or light waves such as those generated during radio frequency (RF) and infrared (IR) data communications. Common forms of computer-readable media therefore include for example: a floppy disk, a flexible disk, hard disk, magnetic tape, any other magnetic medium, a CD-ROM, DVD OR DVD-ROM, any other optical medium, punch cards paper tape, another physical storage medium with patterns of holes, a RAM, a PROM and EPROM, a FLASH-EPROM, any other memory chip or cartridge, a carrier wave transporting data or instructions, cables or links transporting such a carrier wave, or any other medium from which a computer can read programming code and/or data. Many of these forms of computer readable media may be involved in carrying one or more sequences of one or more instructions to a processor for execution.
