Abstract

254,563. Baker, Ltd., G., and Baker, F. Sept. 19, 1925. Wirework. - A cooking-basket or like wire utensil is formed by pressing or stamping a blank of wire mesh in suitable dies, the drawing action of which causes the wire to assume and retain the desired outline. A ring l of heavy gauge wire is secured around the upper edge by closing the ends of the wire mesh therearound. Dies a, b, Fig. 2, are first employed to shape the basket &c., which is then transferred to a further pair of dies in which an annular ridge is shaped around the edge. The basket &c. is then turned over and the superfluous material is removed in another pair of dies while the final closing of the edge around the wire l occupies one or two further operations. The ring l may be formed integrally with the handle as shown in Fig. 1.
