Abstract

A box or casing for a roller blind comprises an extruded first channel 1 of inverted U-shape for rotatably mounting the roller. One leg 2b of the first channel.is provided with an extruded angular extension 11 to define a second inverted U-shaped channel for accommodating electric wiring or any operating mechanism for the blind. The downward-facing open end of the second channel may be closed by a separate releasable cover strip 12.

Description

Blind box
The invention relates to a box for homing roller hands when fitted above windows.
Suck a box conventionaMy comprises a housing in the form of an extruded channel of inverted Ihsh&pe installed with its open end downwards above or on the window frame:. The open lower end can he partially closed by a separate extrusion in the form of an angle member which is releasably conneclaMe to one leg of the channel after the blind has been fitted in the channel The extruded angle member is dimensioned so that it leaves an opening at the channel mouth of sufficient size to permit the raiser blind to he operated In the usual manner by being pulled dawn through the channel mouth to caver the window and allowed to be retracted into tkd channel through the opening.
Modern roller Hind's'· are operated electrically to extend the blind material for covering the window and to retract the blind material back onto the roller in the box when the window is to be uncovered. The problem that has arisen in the past Is that h is difficult to hide the electric operating mechanism and wiring unless it is buried in the wall above the window, which is a costly procedure.
According to the invention, one leg of the aforementioned channel of the blind box is provided with an extruded angular extension to define a second inverted channel for accommodating the electric wiring and any other operating mechanism and possibly even conduits for the water of a central heating system,. The downward open end of She second channel is preferably closed by a separate cover which can likewise be extruded and be a snap fit by means ofco-operating lugs.
An example of a Mind box accordingly to the immtian will now be described With reference, to Ike accompanying drawing Pi which the single figure is a cross-sectional view of a box for accommodating a roller Mind at the top of a window or a row of windows.
The. drawing illustrates a Mind box homing, comprising an inverted channel 1 of extruded material such as aluminium or plastics haring sides 2a and 2b and a base 3. The length of the extrusion is sufficient to accommodate a roller blind {not shownf.
After the blind has been installed in the channel 1 in conventional manner, the downwardly directed mouth of the channel 1 is partially closed by one leg 6 of a separate angle member 4 of which the upstanding other leg 7 is provided with an angular flange 8 for releasnbly hooking onto cm internal angular flange 9 provided on the channel leg 2a.
During the extrusion, the leg 2b of the channel i has been formed with an external; angular extension 11 to define a second inverted, channel, primarily for accommodaung the electric wiring and any operating mechanism for the roller blind.
To hide the contents of the second channel from view, it is reieasahiy closed by an extruded closure strip 12 having, upstanding lug members 13 ami .14. co-operating, preferably with a snap fit respectively with flanges 16 and-17 on the outside of the channel leg 2b and the inside of one limb of the angular extension 11.
It will he appreciated that the length .of the extruded box will coif arm to ike length of the roller of the blind but it is conceivable, that the length of the box has to be such as to accommodate more than one roller installed end it) end in (he case of two or more blinds being installed fir two or more wtiaeeni windows. Also, if the blind box is not to be partially built into the structure of a building it will be advantageous to configure and or ornament the exposed parts to be aesthetically attractive in. the nature qf coving or a .pelmet or other decorative feature usually found between a wall and ceiling.
