Abstract
The illuminated zip puller 1 contains an embedded LED electronics module 8 which is housed inside an internal cavity in the pullers housing 7 and is removable by the user. The LED is controlled by a switch (10, Fig 4) or a movement sensor may be provided to activate the light when the wearer moves. The LED may output different colours when in use. The zipper puller may be used by attaching to a standard zip fastener slider and is preferably moulded from soft rubber or plastic.
Description
Wearable Zip Light System
Background
This invention relates to the use of light module that can be easily applied to the zipper system of a wide range of apparel, packs and other wearable items. The light module is specifically designed to be compatible with existing zipper systems and trim fixtures so it can be easily adapted to modern textile and apparel systems in manufacture and use. There are many advantages for integrating lighting in apparel and wearable articles such as safety and high visibility but also aesthetics and design. The main element of the invention is the design and material structure to embed the lighting technology inside a standardised zip puller housing.
Description
This invention is based around two main components. A micro LED module and a modified zip puller housing. The LED light module is designed to be fitted invisibly inside a standard zip puller moulded housing. The zip puller can be a moulded housing that has a hidden internal cavity which encapsulates the LED module part. When the LED module is placed inside the zip puller cavity it is completely hidden from view so that the zip puller appears as a standard garment trim item. The zip puller is used as a standard textile fixture and can be constructed of metal, polymer plastic, soft rubber and designed to attach on a zip system. The zip puller can be designed in a variety of shapes whilst still housing the designed micro LED module. This allows an unlimited number of zip puller designs using the same embedded micro LED module design.
The soft Zip puller housing material allows for the wearer to press the surface module to activate a switch inside the Zip puller controlling the light.
The Zip Puller part also has a hidden removable rear cover that is also designed so the user can remove the embedded micro LED module and replace the internal battery as required. The internal micro LED light module can be activated by either pressing it on the top surface or alternatively it may have a movement sensor inside the module which can activate the light when the wearer moves.
The unique aspect of this invention is its use as a technical light system for apparel or packs. The Zip Puller looks and functions like a standard zip puller until it is activated.
This Zip Puller light system creates a very easily applied safety or high visibility light for zips or other attachment points and therefore, wearable articles.
The micro LED module consists of a small PCB with a high power LED chipset and microcontroller. The microcontroller allows the LED to be controlled by a variety of software controlled functions to change the flash mode, light intensity or colour of the LED.
Further aspects of this invention are shown by the following drawings :
