Abstract
Managing communications on a moving platform which comprises a platform application and a communications system with a plurality of communications links wherein the communications system comprises a data management module which: receives an indication of the current available bandwidth of a communications link; identifies application data to be transmitted on the link; and causes the application to adapt at least one parameter of the data to the current available bandwidth for transmission. The current available bandwidth may be associated with a quality of service interface. The adaption of the data may comprise compression, modifying the transmission rate or selecting a type or portion of the data to be transmitted. The moving platform may be an unmanned aerial vehicle UAV. The purpose of the invention is to stop bottlenecking of data at the communications system during periods of poor signal strength causing a overspilling of the RAM of the communications system thereby losing data to be transmitted.
