Abstract

A bio absorbable suture 1 made of poly lactic acid (PLA) having a plurality of beads along its length, the beads also made of poly lactic acid. The beads are preferably a mix of cone shaped beads 2 and substantially spherical or ball shaped beads 3, the cone shaped beads arranged so that some face in each direction along the length of the suture. Preferably a pair of beads comprising one substantially spherical bead and one conical bead are positioned between knots 4 in the suture to limit the movement of the beads along the suture. The suture is suitable for use during cosmetic surgery procedures including face lifts.

Description

Beads enriched Silhouette Soft ™ face life sutures
This invention relates to Beads enriched Silhouette soft ™ face lift sutures which have bidirectional cones backed by fine beads. The cones, the beads and the sutures are made of bioabsorbable polylactic acid ( PLA).
Polylactic acid dissolves with time and stimulates collagen production below the skin. Collagen supports the skin and prevents sagging. KMI ( US incorporation for medical devices ) invented the first Silhouette™ face lift suture having the trademark of Silhouette Lift™ ( US patent 7,468,068 and 7,582,105B2 ) during the year 2006.
The suture in Silhouette Lift ™ is 40 cm long and is made of polypropylene 3-0. There is 20 cm long needle which is attached to one end of the suture , and a small half circled cutting needle attached to the second end. There are 10 cones which are threaded over the suture. The cones are spaced by suture knots. A modified version of this suture was introduced during the year 2012 having the name of Silhouette Soft ™ . This suture is 30 cm long, 3-0 size . Both, the cones and the suture are made of polylactic acid. There are two 12 cm long piercing needles attached to both ends of the suture. The suture contains two groups of bidirectional cones. A UK patent GB 2492900 entitled " Modified Silhouette™ face lift surgical suture" dated 2013 talked about a hooked probe to insert the cones containing suture under the skin. The suture is made, of polypropylene.
Another UK patent GB 2495653 entitled " super Silhouette™ face lift suture " dated 2013 talked about using a hollow fine tube to insert the cones containing suture under the skin. The suture is made of polypropylene.
Another UK patent GB 2506549 entitled " Reinforcing mean for Silhouette ™ face lift suture " dated 2014 talked about the addition of a fine thread segment to make the suture more stable. The suture, the cones and the segment are made of PLA.
As we said before, polylactid acid when it is dissolved it stimulates the formation of collagen under the skin. Collagen supports the skin and prevents sagging.
Jo augment the process of collagen formation, the present invention proposes the addition of "beads" to the cones. We introduce in this invention the concept of Collagen Augmentation. In addition, the shape of the bead is less traumatic on insertion and less irritant to the tissues in situ than the shape of the cone. Therefore, the presence of the beads reduces the requirement for large numbers of cones over the suture. I aim at having lower cones and higher beads suture.
Therefore, the suture may contain two third beads and one third cones. One or two beads are placed immediately behind the cone. Both, the cone and the beads are situated between two knots. The bead may be put in front of the cone. Again, the suture, the beads and the cones are made of bio absorbable PLA.
Each cone is 2.5 mm long with a small hole at the narrow end ( 0.35 mm diameter). The wide end (the base ) of the cone is 1.1 mm in diameter. These are the ordinary dimensions of the cone for all patents which are mentioned before.
The bead is 2.5 mm long with a hole of 0.35 mm diameter. It has 1 mm width at the middle (the center).
This enrichment includes all types of Silhouette ™ face lift sutures and their modifications which are mentioned before.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows beads intermingled by cones that are threaded over a suture which has a long piercing needle on each end forming beads enriched Silhouette Soft ™ suture,
Figure 2 shows a magnifying drawing of a cone and a bead which are threaded between two knots,
Figure 3 shows beads and cones which are intermingled and threaded over beads forming beads enriched Silhouette Lift ™ suture,
Figure 4 shows beads and cones which are threaded forming beads enriched Modified Silhouette™ face lift suture UK patent GB2492900,
Figure 5 shows beads and cones which are threaded forming beads enriched Super Silhouette™ Face lift suture UK patent GB 2495653,
Figure 6 shows beads and cones which are threaded forming beads enriched Reinforcing mean for Silhouette™ face lift sutures UK patent GB 2506549.
In figure 1, a bead 3 is placed behind a cone 2. They are situated between two knots 4 over a suture 1 that is attached on both ends with a piercing needle 5 forming beads enriched Silhouette Soft ™ face lift suture. The suture 1 may have different numbers and ratios of beads and cones.
Figure 2 shows a magnifying drawing of the bead 3, the cone 2 and the knots 4 which are found on the suture 1.
Figure 3 shows beads enriched Silhouette Lift ™ suture. A half circle needle 8 is attached to one end of a suture 6 and a 20 cm long needle 7 is attached to the second .end. The bead 3 and the cone 2 are placed between the two knots 4.
Figure 4 shows beads enriched Modified Silhouette™ face lift suture GB 2492900. A 20 cm long metallic road 9 having a notch 10 at its piercing end , and a bifid terminal end 11. The road 9 is used to load (stretch) the suture 6 over it to be ready for insertion under the skin.
Figure 5 shows beads enriched Super Silhouette ™ face lift suture GB 2495653. A 20 cm hollow metallic tube 12 having a notch 13 at its inserting tip and a notch 14 at its terminal end. The suture 6 is inserted through the tube 12 and stretched and loaded between the two notches to be ready for insertion under the skin via a small surgical incision.
Figure 6 shows beads enriched Reinforcing mean for Silhouette ™ face lift sutures GB2506549. The contents and mechanisms of this suture is similar to the beads enriched Silhouette Soft ™ of figure 1.
