Abstract

253,972. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., (formerly Western Electric Co., Ltd.), and Gould, J. R. March 12, 1925. Automatic and semi-automatic exchange systems.-In a test or trunk-offering distributor switch, the switching relay H energizes over the forward loop to the succeeding switch. When the switch is taken into use by an operator, line and release relays A, B energize, and the first train of impulses are repeated to the vertical magnet V. series relay C relapsing at the end of the train to connect up the rotary magnet R, which responds to the second train. Series relay E operates during this train, making the driving circuit independent of test relay G, and energizing this relay, and falls back when the wanted connector is reached. If this is in use, relay G is held by ground over the test wiper, so that the rotary magnet circuit is maintained open and busy tone is sent back. If the wanted connector is free, relay G falls back and grounds the test wiper. Switching relay H energizes over the line wipers in series with the line relay of the connector, and subsequently locks over the test wiper when ground is returned back thereover.
