Abstract

A shelving system may be retrofitted with a low voltage electrical system. The system may be fitted into one or more of the existing shelf columns (Fig 2, d). The system may comprise a plastic extruded main housing a. A pair of flexible insulating extrusions b may be fitted into the housing and may contain elongated brass strips or bus bars c. A horizontal shelf support or bracket may contain a contact (Fig 4, g) that engages with the vertical member when the shelf bracket is fitted to the vertical column.

Description

Wireless Shelf System Retrofit Wireless Shelf System that provides a low voltage power supply to Shelves when mounted in a gondola. It consists of two main parts.
1. The Busbar (fig 1) or (fig 3) This consists of an outer plastic extrusion (a) which houses 2 flexible insulating extrusions (b) that slide in to the front and back and locate linear brass strips that are the electrical conductors (c) see (fig 1) This Busbar Assembly then slides into the slotted uprights (d) of the shelving system (fig 2).
This provides linear spring electrical conductors of Low voltage supply (both polarities) so when the shelf brackets are engaged into slotted uprights (d) the shelf brackets complete the circuit and low voltage power is transmitted through them. The flexible extrusions provide a consistent pressure on the live brass electrical conductors (c) and a contact with minimal electrical resistance to the shelf contacts (g).
(fig 3) shows alternative design where extrusion (a) and (b) are replaced by a co-extrusion (e) that is rigid plastic at both sides where the brass electrical conductors (c) fit and flexible in the centre (f) The pressure of the electrical conductors on the contacts (g) to be similar to (fig 1).
2. Shelf Bracket Standard Brackets house a brass/Copper insulated contact (g). This allows the DC power to be taken from the contact to anywhere on the shelf to allow illumination of the shelf for example.
