Abstract
A filter holder attachment for a laser apparatus that is positioned between the point of emission of the laser and the target. The filter or filters are not permanently attached to the holder, they can be removed and replaced, and are also capable of being positioned at varying distance from the point of emission of the laser. The holder comprises a platform 1 with an attachment point 2 for a laser apparatus (not shown). Supports 3 extend from the platform to a filter housing 4. A cavity 5 receives a filter (not shown) via opening 6.
Description
FILTER HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR LASER APPARATUS
Background
New studies are being undertaken to determine the effect of filtering the beam from cosmetic laser devices. The intention of such studies is to identify materials, which when placed between the beam emission and beam target (the patient), result in a reduction of pain sensation at the target area without significant attenuation of device efficacy.
As the emission of light at particular wavelengths can be harmful to humans, the holding of these filters by hand is recognised as a potentially dangerous practice. Positioning and holding these filters by hand also allows for inconsistency in distance between the point of beam emission and the filter(s) surface.
A simple and novel solution to this problem is an attachable extension to the laser device, designed to securely hold the filter(s) in front of the point of beam emission, such that the filter is positioned between the beam emission point and the target, thus eliminating the problem of the filter being held in position by hand.
Statement of Invention
Overcoming the potential dangers and inaccuracy of positioning and holding the filter(s) between the point of light beam emission and the target area, the present invention attaches to the laser apparatus and holds the desired filter(s) at a fixed or adjustable distance from the point of beam emission.
Advantages The attachment of the filter holder will allow for the laser apparatus to be operated with significantly reduced risk to the operator or other persons holding the filter(s) in position, and improve the accuracy and consistency of distance between the point of beam emission and the filter(s).
Detailed Description
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the invention in its entirety. A platform (1) comprising of a designated attachment point (2) from which the invention may connect to the laser apparatus. An arrangement of supports (3) extending from the platform (1) to a filter holder housing (4). A cavity (5) designated to hold a filter, with an opening (6) by which the filter can be introduced and/or removed. The filter is held in a position (7) in the direct path of the beam emitted from the laser apparatus.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of the invention in Figure 1, depicting a corner of the filter holder housing at an opposite end to that where the filter is introduced and/or removed. The cavity in the filter holder housing (8) functions to hold the filter (9) in position once introduced to the holder.
Claims (4)
- Claims 1. A filter holder attachment for a laser apparatus to permit proper positioning of one or many filters between the point of laser beam emission and the beam target area.
- 2. A filter holder according to claim 1, in which the distance between the filter(s) and point of laser beam emission can be increased or decreased.
- 3. A filter holder according to any of the preceding claims, in which the filter(s) are limitlessly interchangeable.
- 4. A filter holder as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 with the accompanying detailed description.
