Abstract

253,551. Smyser, E. D. June 12, 1925, [Convention date]. Emptying. - Means for emptying well or pump tubing before removal of the latter from a well comprises a valve 9 held by fragile means such as solder within a seat 8 threaded into a collar 7 secured to the well or pump tubing 5; a bar 16, slidably supported in guides 17, carries a roller 15 engaging a collar 14 threaded on to the tubing 5. The collar 14 carries a lug 23. Upper and lower loose collars 18, 19, surrounding the tubing 5, are con. nected by spring strips 20 which frictionally engage the well casing 6. When the tubing 5 is to be removed it is raised until the lug 23 engages an arm 22 on the collar 18; the tubing 5 is then rotated so as to move it upwards through the collar 14 which depresses the bar 16, the latter displacing the valve 9 and allowing oil &c. to drain out of the tubing.
