Crop-sprayers.-Apparatus for irrigating crops by sprinkling comprises a vertical stand pipe mounted on a wheel truck and capable of being connected to an underground pipe system by means of a telescope pipe 34 and hose 33. On the upper part of the stand pipe is a cap 31, provided with a nozzle 41 projecting upwards at an angle of 32‹, and rotated through gearing by a turbine 39 fed with water through a pipe 37. The tail water from the turbine escapes through a pipe and thence is sprayed on the ground through a rotary nozzle not shown. A ring 42 is brought into contact with the jet from the nozzle 41 periodically during the rotation of the cap by means of a crank mechanism 43. Alternatively the ring may be stationary and the nozzle reciprocated. The number of intercepting edges on the ring 42, the number and height of the strokes of the ring, and the depth to which it penetrates the jet may be varied. The pipes 45 to supply the sprinklers are laid below the ground and supplied from a centrifugal pump 47, the branch pipes 46 being supplied with screw caps. When disconnecting and connecting the sprinkler the main valve near the pump 47 is closed; the sprinkler is then detached from the connection and the latter capped, the apparatus is hauled to the next point and connected thereto and the main valve opened.
