Abstract

An electrical vapour cigarette for use in prisons wherein the cigarette comprises of a heating coil restriction device and having an oversized section that prohibits it from being passed through gaps around prison doors. The electrical circuit in the electrical cigarette will preferably comprise of a heating coil, a battery, circuitry and a polyswitch which are connected as part of a simple inline circuit. The polyswitch will preferably be situated on the return line to the battery and will act as a cut off if unsafe temperatures are indicated within the e-cigarette. A further embodiment relates to a nano coating of internal surfaces of the oversized section which will preferably prevent the e-cigarette from misting.

Description

Electronic Cigarette with a inline Polyswitch that creates an open circuit (switches off the e-cig)due to changes in resistance levels when a heating element gets near to a temperature that are known to produce harmful carbonyl compounds, the polyswitch then resets once at safe resistance levels return for continuing use of the e-cig.
A disposable prison electronic cigarette designed for prisons and jails that prevents prisoners from passing the e-cig through the gaps around a prison cell door.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
There are two elements of this summary
1 The purpose of the first innovative product development is to use a poly switch to switch off the connected in line electronic cigarette circuit once resistance levels reach a level consistent to the heating element become too hot and creating harmful carbonyl compounds. When switched off in open circuit the electrical resistance levels soon change back and it becomes a closed circuit once more allowing the user to continue using the electronic cigarette.
The heating coil temperature restriction device is a simple inline poly switch that is positioned electrically on the return circuit of the battery, we are positioning ours next to the battery (1) so that the circuitry can be used in disposable and small rechargeable e-cigs, there is also no need for additional modification of any cartomizers because the circuit can stay the same. The function of the poly switch is to become open circuit (switch off the e-cig) should the resistance levels change on the load circuit, which indicate an unsafe temperate level of the heating element/coil, that start to produce harmful carbonyl compounds. The electronic cigarette is operated by the user inhaling through the mouth piece on the e-cig and this triggers a pressure sensing device (2) in the inlet section on the e-cig to switch on the e-cig, thus creating a closed circuit. The closed circuit allows electrical current from the battery to flow through this simple circuit to the heating coil (3) the heating element/coil heats up due to its electrical resistance properties. The heating element/Coil has a wick positioned through the centre that is linked to the e-liquid reservoir in the mouth piece section of the e-cig. The e-liquid when heated produces vapour that the user of the e-cig inhales. Sometime for a number of different reasons such as the user takes too many goes in succession the heating element/coil may over heat because the e-liquid is not been replenished fast enough from the e-liquid reservoir (e-liquid acts as a coolant). The over heating of the heating element/coil (3) can result in the production of carbonyl compounds, both vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) have been shown to decompose at high temperatures generating low molecular weight carbonyl compounds with established toxic properties (e.g., formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, and acetone) and also cause the heating element/coil to burn out and in extreme cases cause the battery to explode. To prevent overheating we have a poly switch in series with the supply and load, we have positioned the poly switch next to the battery (1) so it can be used in a disposable e-cig as well as a small rechargeable e-cigs. The poly switch will monitor any increases in the resistance of the return circuits values and become open circuit (switch off the e-cig) should the values indicate that the heating element/coil is at undesirable high temperature levels. Once the circuit levels return to within tolerated resistance values the poly switch returns back to closed circuit (switch on) and allows the user to continue using the e-cig once the user starts to inhale through the mouth piece which triggers the pressure sensing mic/switch to be closed circuit (switch on the e-cig).
The resistance value of the poly switch will be initially set to a value that allows the heating element/coil to reach temperatures of 100c, but this resistance value can change up or down once the European Union Publishes new regulations in the tobacco directive May 2016 for nicotine containing products, which relates to the levels of carbonyl compounds produced in e-cig vapour.
2 The standard disposable prison electronic cigarette are made to the same dimensions of a generic electronic cigarette which are approx. 1cm x 12cm and are a cylinder shape.
Currently in prisons there is a problem of unauthorised items being passed through the gaps around the prison cell doors. This can impact on the smooth running of many prisons and jails regimes due to bullying of prisoners by other prisoners that may use prison e-cigs as a form of prison currency.
By designing an electronic cigarette with an over sized section of the casing that is equal in thickness all the way round a standard prison e-cig, will produce a new prison electronic cigarette that prevents prisoners from passing them through the standard gaps around a prison or jail cell door.
Due to the over sized section being located on the mouth piece section of the e-cig it will create a large internal chamber that needs to be clear once the vapour has passed through it, to prevent the mist vapour from coating the internal section of the chamber a nano compounds is placed on inside chamber wall and this prevent misting in the chamber.
The innovative oversized design features of the diagram is not restricted to the section of the prison cigarette diagram in diagram (2). Prison e-cigs have all been made to resemble in size a standard disposable electronic cigarette and they are not oversized enough to prevent them from being passed under a prison or jail cell door.

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1. A Polys witch in series with a load and a supply within an Electronic Cigarette. that creates an open circuit due to changes in resistance levels of the heating element, just before the heating element gets to a temperature that is known to produce carbonyl compounds, The polys witch returns to its normal working closed circuit condition when the resistance levels return to within acceptable levels allowing continuing use of the electronic cigarette.
  2. 2. Oversized section of a prison electronic cigarette that due to its size increase it prevents the prisoner user from passing said electronic cigarette through the gaps that are often found round the prison or jail cell doors.
  3. 3. Nano coating or other products with properties that prevents the vapour produced by the electronic cigarette from misting up of the internal walls of the oversized section which is located at the mouth piece.
