Abstract

The invention relates to a method of protecting a closure (1) from ingress of water, comprising the steps of providing a foam material (2) which expands on contact with moisture, providing a relatively rigid substantially planar barrier member (5), applying the barrier member (5) to a surround of the closure, and providing the foam material (2) between the surround and the barrier member whereby to provide a substantially water-tight protector against ingress of water on expansion of the foam material. There is also disclosed a means to urge the barrier member against a surround, alternatively being a bracket and clamp device or a treadle-like device, and in addition disclosure of the foam material acting as a gasket outboard of a lateral edge of the barrier member (5).
