Rollers, land and garden; disc-tool and rotarytool machines; travelling and propelling gear; adjusting parts.-A motor-operated appliance of the multiple or gang type comprises a wheeled main frame, a motor, a transverse power shaft, and a number of revolving rolling, cultivating, or like units driven from the power shaft and carried by independent radius members pivoted about the axis of the power shaft, a swivel joint being provided in connection with each unit to allow for the twisting or turning of each unit relatively to the pivotally-mounted inner end of its radius member. The main frame 1 may be mounted on two rear wheels 2 and a front wheel or roller 4. The transverse power shaft 5 may be driven from the motor 3 by a chain 6 which may also drive a shaft 7 geared to the wheels 2 by chains 8. Three lawn-mower units B, C may be arranged with the central unit in front of the two side units. Each unit comprises a housing or frame 10 mounted on side wheels 11 or rear rollers,. and connected to an inclined radius arm 12 the forward end of which is connected by a swivel joint to a T-head pivoted on a sleeve forming a bearing for the shaft 5. The shank of the T-head carries an adjustable sleeve fitting in a sleeve 18 on the radius arm 12. This arrangement allows of adjustment of the effective length of the arm 12 to regulate the tension of the chain 22 through which the cutter is driven from the shaft 5. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the cutter is driven from a shaft 32 mounted in the arm 12 and driven from the shaft 5 through bevel gearing 29, 30, 31 and a shaft 28 carried by a pivoted bracket 27. A lateral extension of the arm 12 swivels on an extension of the shaft 28. In another arrangement the arm 12 is tubular and a shaft passes through it and drives a shaft on the mower-unit frame 10. The arm 12 is pivoted about the axis of the shaft 5 and the shaft within it passes through a sleeve in the frame 10 so that the mower may swivel about it.
