Abstract

A method for identifying animal tissue using a bench top NMR spectrometer with a magnetic field strength between 1.0 and 2.5 Tesla is provided. Triglyceride molecules are dissolved from an animal tissue sample using a solvent to obtain a sample. The sample is then scanned using a bench top NMR spectrometer and the resulting signal is converted into a frequency spectrum. The spectrum is then analysed and characteristic data for the animal tissue is output, wherein said characteristic data indicates the identity of the animal tissue.
