Abstract

A box comprises one or more modems connecting via a SIM card to a cellular network mobile infrastructure; an inbuilt microphone, a wireless module an radio frequency module. The box provides a means of receiving a stream of content via mobile technology which is then transmitted to the vehicles stereo system, predominantly via a localised FM signal bandwidth. Data content can be delivered to the vehicle via the FM Stereo and data from devices connected to the Connected Cab box. The box can utilise the connectivity to send and receive data much like a wireless network would provide.

Description

Connected Cab This connectivity solution provides a means of receiving a stream of content via mobile technology which is then transmitted to the car stereo, predominantly via the means of localised FM signal generation. As well as to other devices connected either via FM, Bluetooth or Wifi.
Background of the invention
Receiving streamed content to the car can be a tricky and a risky business. Tricky because maintaining the required quality of signal on the move is problematic. And risky because costs to the recipient to stream data via a mobile telephony network can be variable and sometimes very expensive, but more importantly because there is a very real and persistent potential for the driver to become distracted with associated wires needed to plug the phone or player in to the stereo system, or worse still, with earphone cables being used to listen directly from the device causing for external noise awareness to be dulled or blocked completely.
As a content provider Immedia plc are committed to overcome the problems present currently in receiving streamed content whilst in a vehicle, the aim being to make it a safer and more convenient experience, minimising both costs in terms of data consumption and environmental impact by reducing the need to consume manufactured peripheral cables and gadgets usually required to listen to the device (especially where Bluetooth connection to the car stereo isn't an option).
Summary of the invention
A box approximately the size of a deck of cards that contains; a modem connecting the box via sim card to the cellular mobile infrastructure; a battery safe for constant charging and capable of operating at temperatures ranging from -40 to +50 degrees celcius; inbuilt mic; a Bluetooth module capable of supporting both Bluetooth and Bluetooth low energy; a wifi module capable of extending signal to a distance of 10 metres outside of the cab; a FM transmitter module offering a default FM frequency transmission which can support signal transition to any frequency in the FM range.
And which can be charged via a standard 12v socket (cigarette lighter cable), OBD (Cambus), or following installation, drawing directly from the vehicle power loom.
Once powered the 'Connected Cab' box will seek a stream source that is then available via low energy (highly localised) FM signal transmission, Bluetooth or Wifi.
The main interaction however will be for the driver to tune the stereo to seek the stream. Once saved the default frequency can be a preset button on the radio (in most radio models).
Interaction with the box will be possible through a variety of means including mobile / laptop OS device app, direct button input and voice control.

Claims (2)

  1. CLAIMSA box comprising: one or more modems connecting via sim card to cellular network mobile infrastructure; a battery safe for constant charging and capable of operating at temperatures ranging from -40 to +50 degrees celcius; inbuilt mic; a Bluetooth module; a WiFi module; a FM transmitter module wherein these components are connected to a motherboard and controlled via an operating system (OS) to provide a low energy FM transmission and data connectivity.
  2. 2. A box capable of streaming from an external data course data which will be converted to a FM transmission wherein that signal is available to be accessed (tuned in) via the vehicle's FM radio receiver and data from device connected to the box which can be streamed back to an external data point.
