Abstract
The body of a solid-fuel fired heating stove is a hollow cuboid made of four parts. Part (1) is a cast-iron base, with a raised centre portion (11) and a channel or groove (12) for the receiving of parts (2) and (4). Part (2) is a cast-iron front, with orifices (6) for the hanging of a door and with channels along the left and right-hand sides of its rear face for receiving the edges of part (4). Part (3) is a cast-iron top incorporating a circular orifice (8) as a flue gas, outlet tabs (10) extending downwards for fixing and a continuous peripheral channel. Part (4) is a rectangle of steel sheet which is bent at 90 degrees at two vertical lines parallel to each other so as to form a 'U' shape when viewed from above. All of these are slotted together and part (4) is secured to parts (1) and (3) by fixing screws (5). Sealing material may be incorporated at the joints between the parts.
Description
TITLE: Method of Constructing a Heating Stove Body
BACKGROUND:
Small domestic ifiel-burning heating stoves must have very sturdy body casings to withstand significant thermal and mechanical stresses.
Such stoves bodies are normally made either of an assembly of cast iron pieces or of welded steel sheet. However, cast iron is prone to crack when subjected to sudden changes of temperature while steel sheet is prone to warp when subject to continuous heating.
The present invention discloses a very specific method of constructing a heating stove body which uses a combination of cast iron for some parts and steel sheet for other parts.
DISCLOSURE:
The invention is for a specific method of constructing the body of a heating stove from four pieces of metal, which will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Drawing Number I illustrates the appearance of a heating stove complete and assembled utilising a specific embodiment of the invention as its body, shown with doors and other fittings not part of this invention in place.
Drawing Number 2 illustrates the components which are brought together to form one specific embodiment of the invention.
Drawing Number 3 illustrates a specific embodiment of the invention, when assembled.
In each of these drawings; () isa cast-iron base, with a raised centre portion (II) and a channel (12) (2) is a cast-iron front, with orifices (6) and with channels along the left and right-hand sides of its rear face (3) Is a cast-iron top incorporating a circular orifice (8) as a flue gas outlet and tabs (10) extending downwards for fixing (4) Is a rectangle of steel sheet which is bent at 90 degrees at two points parallel to each other so as to form a U' shape when viewed from above, (5) Is a fixing screw According to the invention the body of a solid-fuel fired heating stove is of the form of a hollow cuboid and is constructed of four parts, the first part, or base of the cuboid, is an iron casting moulded so that the centre rectangular part is raised and between which raised area and the periphery of the base is a continuous depressed channel, the second part is a rectangle of steel sheet bent at 90 degrees along two parallel and vertical lines so as to form three planes constituting a back and a left-hand side and a right-hand side of the cuboid, the lowest edge of which three-sided plate is located into the depressed channel in the cast iron base along the back, left-hand and right-hand sides, the third part is an iron casting moulded in such a way as to form a front panel which is provided with orifices and with channels along the left and right-hand sides of its rear face, the lower edge of which cast-iron front panel locates into the front part of the continuous depressed channel in the cast iron base and the channels in the rear of the cast-iron front take the location of the forward-facing two edges of the steel sheet component, the fourth part is a cast-iron top moulded in such a way as to have a continuous peripheral channel on its underside which channel locates onto the upper edge of the cast-iron front part and the upper edges of the bent rectangle of steel sheet. The four parts are held together with screws which pass through the lower part of the three-sided plate and into the walls of the raised rectangular part of the cast-iron base and also through the upper part of the three sided plate and into the cast-iron top such that the cast-iron front panel is trapped in place between the top and the base.
