Abstract
A drum kit strap stabiliser which prevents the kick drum shifting along the floor and moving away from the drummer whilst it is being played comprising a webbing strap 1 which will preferably loop through the outer construction of the kick drum and loop behind the stool to form a secure connection. The weight of the user on the stool will act as an anchor and reduce movement of said drums. The length of the strap will preferably be changed to cater for difference of playing position.
Description
Drum Kit Strap Stabiliser This invention relates to a strap, which is used to stabilise a conventional drum kit.
When drummers play a full drum kit the motion and impact on the kick drum often pushes the drum kit forward. This is a common problem, which leads to the drum kit becoming unstable and difficult to play.
To overcome this, the drum kit strap stabiliser connects the large central kick drum to the drummers stool1 and uses the drummers body weight to secure the drums together and retain the desired playing position. The strap is threaded through the outer construction of the kick drum, known as the drum lugs, and looped behind the stool. The strap has a buckle at one end, which secures the strap between the kick drum and the stool. The length of the strap can be altered depending on the desired playing position and the size of the kit and drummer.
Often this motion problem can be reduced by placing the drums on a matt or by using a fixed heavy frame to attach the drums to. However, these options have their own issues, such as high costs and movement can also still occur.
The drum strap is a stronger, stable solution to the problem and stops the movement of the kit when it is olayed. It is also very easy to use and set up, and is a much more affordable option, especially for amateurs learning the drums.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows how the strap fully connects the kick drum to the stool and is secured in position by the buckle.
Figure 2 shows how the strap is threaded through the lugs of the kick drum on the outer rim, to make a secure connection.
Figure 3 shows how the strap is threaded around the central frame of the drummer's stool and is positioned at the desired length by the securing buckle.
Figure 4 shows an aerial view of how the strap fully connects through both sides of the kick drum and behind the stool. This will allow adequate space and positioning for the kick pedal and drummer's foot in between the strap -In figure 1, a hardwearing polyester strap 1 is threaded between the lugs of the kick drum, which can be found on the outer rim of all conventional kick drums. The polyester strap is 25mm wide and 2m long to adequately loop behind the drummer's stool and maintain the desired seating position away from the kick drum-At one end of the strap is a 350kg cam buckle 2 which allows both ends of the s:abilising strap to connect together in a loop, securely behind the drummer's stool. The buckle can be adjusted easily from this position to create the desired spacing between the stool and the kick drum.
Figure 2 shows in close up how the strap 1 should be threaded through the lugs on the kick drum. The lugs are positioned around the kick drum, approximately eight on all conventional kick drums. The strap should be threaded through the two bottom lugs for a secure and stable connection.
Figure 3 shows how the strap is then looped around the drummer's stool and fixed in place by the cam buckle 2 found at one end of the strap. This prevents the kick drum moving away from the drummer's stool and holds it stable and at the desired playing position.
Figure 4 shows an aerial view of the looped strap. The strap 1 is threaded through the two bottom lugs on the kick drum and loops from both sides of the kick drum behind the stool. The strap is then connected and fixed behind the drummer's stool by the cam buckle 2, which will be secured underneath the seat cf the stool. Figure 4 importantly shows how the kick pedal, which is used with the kick drum, fits in between the strap providing adequate room for the pedal and drummer's foot to play comfortably.
Claims (5)
- Claims 1. A drum kit strap stabiliser, which prevents the kick drum shifting along the floor, and moving away from the drummer as it is played.
- 2. A drum kit strap stabiliser according to claim 1, which connects the large central kick drum to the drummers stool, and uses the drummers body weight to secure the drums together with the stool, to reduce movement and retain the desired playing position.
- 3. A drum kit strap stabiliser according to claim 2, which is threaded through the outer construction of the kick drum, known as the drum lugs, and looped behind the stool to create a secure connection.
- 4. A drum kit strap stabiliser according to claim 3, which has a buckle at one end, which secures the strap between the kick drum and the stool.
- 5. A drum kit strap stabiliser according to any of the preceding claims, in which the length of the strap can be altered so the drummer can be nearer or further away from the kick drum, depending on the desired playing position.
