Abstract

A tubular / tube door latch has a cylindrical body containing a magnet. As the door handle spindle rotates, the magnet is retracted away from a door frame and at the same time the magnet moves away from a reed switch located in the door frame (figure 2). As the magnet moves, the status of the reed switch changes from closed to open and the electric door lock is released allowing the door to open. The objective of the device is to remove the need to operate a push to exit button and then have to push or pull a door handle to open the door as the door can be unlocked and opened by turning the door handle.

Description

The magnetic tube latch is a direct replacement of a standard tube latch, but its function is not to hold the door in a closed position its function is to switch off electro mechanical locks on the door there by giving the user a completely natural and seamless way to open the door on access controlled doors i.e. doors with magnetic locks shear locks etc, embedded in the door casing is a magnetic reed switch, which with the door in the closed position will be in a NC state and therefore the door will be locked, to open the door as the lever handle turns the magnet in the latch is retracted thereby switching the state of the contact switch to open thereby releasing the door lock and enabling the door to be pulled open in one motion.
The latch body will be sprung as usual to return the lever therefore locking the door without any further input.
The idea being to remove the necessity of pressing a separate "push to exit button" and then pushing/pulling the door handle to open it.
The installation of the device will be very straightforward with all wiring being in the door frame and hidden behind the architrave Designed to be used with a split or half spindle so the external handle (if there is one) doesn't unlock the door * User friendly * No wiring in the door leaf all wiring into outer door frame * Easily installed either direct replacement or new installation * Architecturally aesthetically pleasing using existing or new lever handle * Can be manufactured with various size backsets * Cost effective and installation friendly * Tried and tested technology * Simple maintenance free function Please note this is not to be confused with a magnetic tubular latch by Bonaiti which function is to hold the door closed with a magnetic latch
