Abstract
A headrest 1 fitted to the top 2 of a pushchair to either extend the backrest 3 or sit on the backrest 3 and so to provide a headrest. The headrest 1 may be incorporated in the construction of the pushchair by providing support 9 above the joints of the pushchair 6. The headrest may be adjustable for height. The headrest may be constructed of a fabric material and may fold when the buggy is collapsed, see figure 8. The headrest may be attached to the framework of the pram by hook and loop fastenings 5 (see figure 7). The headrest may be fitted with storage pockets 10 (see figure 10)
Description
Intellectual Property Office Application No. GB1414480.2 RTTVI Date:30 March 2015 The following terms are registered trade marks and should be read as such wherever they occur in this document: Velcro Intellectual Property Office is an operating name of the Patent Office www.gov.uk/ipo Headrest for pusbchairs This invention relates to an attachable headrest for pushchairs or versions of a headrest for pushchairs.
Umbrella type pushchairs and especially travel and lightweight pushchairs are intended to be used as a travel or backup pushchair as they are light and easy to transport They are often used for older children who can already walk but not over long distances.
The typical design of these pushchairs usually doesn't provide any head support for taller children as they have a low backrest which finishes under the top joint of the folding mechanism.
Also the fabric of the backrests tends to be thin and not upholstered, making the support of the head for smaller children possible but uncomfortable.
To overcome this the present invention of an attachable headrest can be fitted at different heights to most of the available travel pushchairs to provide a comfortable headrest for children of different heights.
By being able to attach the invention to the pushchair at different heights to accommodate smaller and taller children the invention provides more comfort for children. The headrest allows children to rest their head and to sit longer in the pushchair.
When children are tired the invention allows taller children to lean their head back and potentially fall asleep since their head is supported.
Smaller children find a comfortable headrest instead of a thin fabric, which also allows them to rest and fall asleep.
Preferably the invention is upholstered and made from a suitable water-repellent fabric.
Preferably the invention can be taken off and washed.
Preferably the invention is flexible and bendable and folds with the pushchair when collapsed. When folded the material of the headrest is protected from dirt.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller Figure 2 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with a sitting infant/toddler Figure 3 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached invention Figure 4 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with a sitting infant/toddler and the attached invention Figure 5 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached invention at a different height Figure 6 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached invention at a different height Figure 7 shows a rear view of a standard trav& lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached invention Figure 8 shows a collapsed standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached invention Figure 9 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached invention and the dotted backrest of the pushchair for clarity Figure 10 shows a rear view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with the attached version of the invention Figure 11 shows a front view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with a version of the invention Figure 12 shows a rear view of a standard travel lightweight pushchair or umbrella stroller with a version of the invention An either attachable and detachable or fixed soft and flexible band of fabric or of any other suitable material 1 is fitted to the top 2 of the pushchair to extend the backrest 3 and/or to provide a headrest 1.
The headrest 1 can be fitted at different heights S to provide support for children of different heights. This is illustrated in figure 3, 5 and 6.
The headrest 1 is held in place by either Velcro, Velcro straps, straps, push buttons, clips, hooks, pins, elastic bands, the fabric of the headrest itself, adhesive, ties or any other mechanical fixings 5.
All mechanical fixings 5 will either need to be stretchable or adjustable to accommodate for different types and widths of available pushchairs.
The invention 1 can sit above the joints 6 of the folding construction of the pushchair or below the joints 6 of the pushchair to allow for different heights of children.
Figure 9 shows that the invention 1 overlaps or sits on 7 the existing backrest 3 to provide a transition between the existing backrest 3 and the invention 1.
Figure 11 shows a version of the invention; which is integrated into the construction of the pushchair by extending fabric 9 of the pushchair to sit above the joints 6 of the folding mechanisms.
The Invention 1 can also have pockets 10 for storage or holders 11 for cups or bottles.
