Abstract

A construction site charging unit 1 that facilitates the safe charging of portable devices connected to 240 volts in a 110 volt area. A transformer element is able to produce 240 volts from a 110 volt supply. The unit consists of a charging area 10 in which a plurality of devices may be charged at the same time via a socket assembly 8. The charging unit may preferably have safety features that are used to isolate the device when the door is open and includes a contact switch 7 on the door 2 and an anti lift micro-switch 13. If either switch is triggered, the unit will shut off the power that is being received, thus isolating the circuit.

Description

CONSTRUCTION SITE CHARGING UNIT
This invention relates to a unit designed to provide a protected 240 volt supply within a restricted to 110 volt area of construction sites the purpose of the unit is to allow cordless power device batteries to be re-charged using the dedicated 240 volt charger supplied by the device manufacturer.
The unit is designed for indoor use and to be connected to the 110 volt supply directly at the point of work i.e. within the site working area via any 110 volt transformer or installed liOvoltwired system, usingthe unitwill greatlyincrease productivityofthe userand employer by the reduction of cordless power tool downtime, the popular trend of most construction sites are to position the 240 volt charging point some distance from the work area causing potential waste of time, energy and financial loss.
Further benefits created by the unit are the added security afforded to equipment whilst on site and during transportation a U type bolt 20 can be used as a security cable shackle point.
The inclusion of a parts list A' and drawings numbered 1 to 5 will assist with the
following description
The user places up to two cordless device batteries and chargers into the area 10 and connects them to the 240 volt double socket 8 which will deliver electrical power when the safety conditions that are built into the unit are met, these conditions are, the lid 2 of the unit 1 must be closed to operate micro switch 12 via the lid stay switch activator 7 and the unit lid 2 must be key locked with cam lock switch activator 5 to operate micro switch 13 allowing 110 volt power to the transformer 11 to be converted to 240 volt power supplied to the 240 volt double socket 8.
The unit must be used upon a level and even surface to ensure the anti lift micro switch activator 19 maintains pressure to the anti lift micro switch 18 if this is achieved and micro switch 12 and 13 are engaged then the transformer unit 11 will deliver the required 240 volts the double socket 8.
If the unit is lifted whilst in charging operation mode the anti lift micro switch 18 releases and the 240 volt supply is switched off The unit can accommodate two battery charging devices placed within the charging area at one time, these are not restricted to power tool batteries but can also include cell phone, lap top computer and pencil battery recharging units or any device requiring a 240 volt supply providing the safety requirements of the unit are met.
One double 13 amp 240 volt socket 8 is installed within the unit to connect one or two battery chargers this is a switched socket to allow a fully charged battery and charger to be switched off whilst a second one is connected for charging.
If the unit is unlocked there is no access to a live 240 volt supply Progress of the battery charging can be checked via two viewing areas 4 constructed within the lid these are included to prevent interruption of the charging procedure as if the user were to unlock cam lock switch activator 5 and open the lid 2 the 240 volt supply would switch off and charging would stop.
Mounted to the front facia of the unit is one euro plug 6 for the connection of the hot condition euro socket to allow power to be taken and converted to 240 volts from any volt supply using the provided connection lead 9.
The euro type plug 6 is equipped with one 13 amp fuse to protect the incoming 110 volt power, there is also a fuse fined to the transforming unit 11 to protect the 24Ovolt current to the charging sockets 8.
The rear facia has one axial fanl5,this fan operates when the 240 volt current is operating, and the fan is included in the system to provide airflow for fan cooled battery chargers, the fan 15 has a finger guard 16 fitted for safety of the unit user.
The drawings numbered 1 to 5 illustrate a portable unit version which can be moved easily using the carrying handles 3.
Parts list' B will assist with drawings numbered 6 and 7 The drawings 6 and 7 show the main components of the portable version of the construction charging unit incorporated into a purpose made site tool storage chest demonstrating the versatility of the design.
