Abstract

An electronic cigarette device that has a timer, the timer determines the amount of time that the device can deliver the ingredient that is being dispensed by the electronic cigarette. The timer prevents the user being able to use the device continually and thus assist in reducing their dependency on nicotine or other chemical(s) that are being dispensed by the electronic cigarette. The timer may have preset programmes, or timer settings may be changed by the user or third party that can be altered by an alternative device e.g. wirelessly; thereby altering the amount of time the device is active or the amount of ingredient that is received by the user. A set times the timer may also trigger the device to release a reduced concentration of devices ingredients.

Description

Title-Nicotine replacement device with controlled delivery.
Description
Background.
This invention relates to a nicotine replacement device that incorporates a system to control the amount of chemicals that the device can deliver. Many smokers have chosen to opt for electronic or other vaporising type cigarettes to replace harmful conventional cigarettes. They choose to do this to either avoid the harmful effects of tobacco andJor part of the process to give up smoking.
Because these devices have no cut off system the user can use them for an extended amount of time compared with conventional cigarettes.
This therefore allows the user to create an extended habit of smoking which does not promote a reduction of use that may assist in breaking or reducing the smoking habit. It may also cause the user to increase their inhalation of certain chemicals.
This invention relates to a device that will allow the user a limited amount of use time before it turns off. After shutting down it will then wait a further period of time before it will activate for a further period of time.
The use and shut down timings can be pre-set at manufacture or set by the user or third party -say a doctor or other person or thing. The timings could be set on the device or via a secondary device such as a computer that connects to the device directly, indirectly or wirelessly. The control could be part of a programme to assist the user to reduce their use of the device and or the dependant chemical(s).
This can be achieved by (a) regulating the amount of time that the device will be active to supply the chemicals and by then disabling the device for a period of time or by (b) regulating the quantity of chemical dispensed for the set periods of time or a combination of both (a) and (b) The cycle times can be fixed or follow a program that alters the timing over a period of time or by measuring usage or a combination of both.
Example (1) A nicotine replacement device that the user can use for say' 3 minutes -after the 3 minutes the device becomes inactive and will shut down for a further set period of time say' 30 minutes before it then becomes active again. The device will then remain available' for use for an indefinite period of time, but once the device is used again it will trigger a timer that will only allow the device to be active for the original set on time' before becoming inactive and the cycle starts over again.
Example (2) A device as in example (1) that instead of entirely shutting down it only stops delivering the active chemical but continues to operate but will only supply a lesser concentration of the active chemical. Thus the user will only be receiving a reduced concentration of the active chemical. If the device was for example a vaporising device the user may receive just a harmless vapour or reduced concentration of any chemical such as nicotine -allowing them to continue using the device without the active ingredient.
