Abstract
A cement render or plaster bead comprises two sections which rotate with respect to each other about a common axis. Each section of the bead may have an adhesive means 8 to affix it to an existing surface, the adhesive may be a double sided tape. The beading may be made of aluminium strip and may have a curved section 3a forming a hinge wrapped around a hinge pin 6. The beading may have a series of cut outs 7 to engage with the render/plaster. The beading may be shaped by hand to suit any internal or external curve or arch. The beading may be supplied flat to aid transport and rotated to suit the desired angle.
Description
PLASTER BEAD
This invention is a modification of conventional plaster bead.
There are two main issues with the current standard design of plaster bead regarding the installation. Plaster bead is manufactured so that the angle along the length between the two halves is 90°. However, the angle at a corner between two walls may not be 90°. The second issue is that plaster bead needs to be held in place while the plaster is applied to the wall. This creates difficulty for the user since only one hand is available to apply plaster. It is also difficult to ensure that the plaster bead is flush to the entire edge, especially when dealing with high walls.
To address these problems, this invention combines a continuous hinge and plaster bead so that the angle between the two halves can be varied from O°to 180°. The plaster bead also has patches that are covered with adhesive, allowing the user to fix the plaster bead to the wall.
The axis of the hinge will run along the entire length of the plaster, bisecting the two halves.
There can be one point at which the two halves meet, or several repeated points. The user can install the plaster bead to a corner of two walls that have any angle between them, while ensuring that the bead will be flush to the walls, The hinge modification also allows the plaster bead to be packaged more conveniently, if it is stacked with an angle of 1800 between each half.
The user can push the plaster bead on to the corner, causing it to adhere before plastering.
This allows the user to use both hands to apply plaster without the concern of holding the plaster bead in place. The sections of adhesive may be protected with a label for packaging and distribution. This can be removed with ease by the user. The sections of adhesive can be any shape but preferably be covering discrete areas along the plaster bead, at separated intervals as opposed to the entire surface of the bead being covered with adhesive.
The invention will now be described using the following drawings as a reference: Figure 1 displays a segment of the midsection of the plaster bead, with the angle between the two halves set at 1800.
Figure 2 shows one end of the plaster bead with the angle between the two halves set at around 90°.
Figure 3 shows a segment of only one half of the plaster bead, with the internal rod of the hinge and an adhesive patch visible. The other half is removed in this diagram.
Figure 4 displays a segment of one half of the plaster bead, with a patch of adhesive visible.
The plaster bead may be fabricated of a low density metal such as Aluminium. 1 and 2 are halves of the plaster bead, separated at 4 in figure 1. 3a and 3b are cylindrical regions which form part of each half of the plaster bead. They are therefore fixed to their respective half (1 and 2). Lines 9a and 9b simply distinguish between the non-curved, straight part of each half land 2, and the cylindrical regions 3a and 3b. Lines ba and lob are the edges of each half, where both halves are separated. They are to be separated by a thin gap to allow rotation.
3a and 3b may be duplicated along the length of the plaster bead, resulting in several points of separation 4.
Each half 1 and 2 can rotate about the cylindrical internal rod 6, shown in figure 3. The internal rod is the mutual connection between the two halves. It is to be solid and have a smaller diameter than that of the cylindrical regions 3a and 3b. The rod is enclosed by 3a and 3b and not usually visible. The circular flange of the internal rod can be exposed at the end of the bead, shown by 5 in figure 2. A flange may be present at each end of the rod, preventing it from being removed. The internal rod 6 may also be produced from a low density metal. Lubrication between the internal rod 6 and the inside walls of the enclosing cylindrical regions 3a and 3b is required for rotation. This can be achieved by the application of a lubricant during manufacture.
Cut-out regions are shown by 7 and can be any of any geometry. The adhesive section is shown by the rectangular region 8, which can also be of any geometry. The adhesive is represented by the cross hatching. The adhesive is a substance that is applied directly to the surface of the plaster bead during manufacturing. This may be covered with a protective label to be removed before use.
Claims (6)
