Abstract

A garment, which may be attached to a bra to create a baby-doll type negligée, comprises a main body 4 with double-ended straps 1 with a button 3 fastened at one end and a loop 2 created at the other. The straps may be permanently fitted to the garment, or detachable. The garment may also have drawstrings 7 running inside the top front seam to enable the garment to be fitted to the body of the user. The garment is attached to the bra of a user by looping the straps over the front or sides of the bra and fastening the ends by passing a button through the loop. The straps may be elasticated. Other fastening means may also be used to secure the straps.

Description

Title: Bra-to-Babydoll negligee convertor
Background
Currently it is very difficult for women with large breasts and small backs to find negligées that fit them correctly and offer the right support. Often they have to make do with a garment that is not their size and only fits because their breasts are taking up the part of the garment that is meant for their back.
Statement of invention
The Bra-to-Babydoll converter: A garment that can turn a bra into a babydoll negligee using an attaching mechanism that extends above the main body of the garment up and around the sides and front of the user's own bra and a fastening mechanism to keep it in place. The bra-to-babydoll convertor is adjustable; it has drawstrings in the front which will allow the user to make it tighter if they require, the back of the garment drapes which provides extra room for larger sized users and they also have the option to use additional straps around the side back of their bra. The bra is NOT part of the invention but is required in order to use the invention.
The Bra-to-Babydoll converter will allow women of any bra size to wear a negligee that fits them perfectly and comfortably because they can use their own bra and attach the convertor garment to it, making a pretty negligee in minutes.
There are several advantages to this invention: * Women with small backs that need large bra cup sizes (eg. Sizes 30H and up) will not be limited in their choice of negligee (currently there is only one babydoll style negligee available that accommodates sizes 30H and up) * People with non-standard bra sizes will be able to wear a negligee without having to have it specially made.
* People with much larger hips in relation to their ribcage will not be restricted by their back size. (eg.
Hips being tight because their back is small) * Can be used with almost any bra style * Can be produced in small, medium or large thus accommodating a wide range of bra sizes.
* It is adjustable: Some of the straps will be detachable and the front top hem will have drawstrings built in so that the garment can accommodate various sizes * The draping back provides extra room for larger sized users * The Bra-to-Babydoll converter can be attached in minutes * It can be detached and re-used with different bras * The user can mix and match the Bra-to-Babydoll convertor with different bra styles and colours in their wardrobe Drawings One embodiment of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a full diagram of the Bra-to-Babydoll negligee convertor Figure 2 shows the Bra-to-Babydoll negligee convertor opened out and unfastened Figure 3 is the side view of how the garment is attached to a bra Figure 4 is the Button loop strap and double-ended detachable button loop strap attached to the main body of the convertor garment FigureS shows the Button loop strap and double-ended detachable button loop strap Figure 6 is a full diagram of another variant (style design) of the Bra-to-Babydoll negligee convertor Figure 7 shows an alternative attaching and fastening mechanism: Poppers and popper straps
Detailed Description
Figure 1 shows the front (A) and the back (B) of the Bra-to-Babydoll convertor. (1) Elasticated straps, (2) button loops, (3) buttons, (4) main garment body, (5) drape back & (7) drawstrings. Button loop straps are a combination of one elasticated strap (1) & one button loop (2) on the end -visible on diagram A (the front view) of figure 1. Detachable double-ended button loop straps are one elasticated strap (1) with a button loop (2) on either end -examples of these are the two inner straps on diagram B (the back) of figure 1.
There will be various styles of the main garment body (4) however every design will feature a mechanism for attaching and fastening it to the user's bra. The style denoted in figure 1 opens at the centre front fastening via a standard button loop around the central button.
Figure 2 shows the version of the Bra-to-Babydoll negligee convertor described in figure 1 opened out. (1) Elasticated straps, (2) button loops, (3) buttons, (4) main garment body, (5) drape back, (6) standard button loop & (7) drawstrings. The standard button loop (6) fastens around the button which falls in the centre front of the garment, depicted as the right most button in the drawing. The drawstrings (7) run inside the top front seam on the right and left of the garment depicted by the dot-dash line (-.-.-), the drawstring then comes out near the centre front of the garment on both sides so that the user can tighten the garment if they require. In figure 2 the drawstrings come out on either side of the diagram as the garment depicted is open /laid out flat.
Figure 3 shows how the Bra-to-Babydoll negligee convertor can be attached to a bra. The elasticated straps (1) are passed around each side and the centre front of the owner's bra (the bra is NOT part of the invention and is therefore, shaded with diagonal lines in the diagram). The button loops (2) are then secured over the buttons (3). The main body of the garment (4) then forms the skirt' portion of the resulting negligee. The drape back(s) and the drawstrings (7) allow the garment to accommodate various back sizes.
Figure 4 shows the button loop strap and double-ended detachable button loop strap in relation to the rest of the convertor garment. The position of the buttons (3) which the button loop (2) can be affixed to and part of the back of the main garment (4). The strap on the left is a double-ended detachable button loop strap -one button ioop is put over the button, the strap is then looped around the side back of the user's bra, then the other loop is placed over the same button.
FigureS shows the button loop strap (A) which consists of an elasticated strap (1) with a button ioop (2) on the end. It also shows the double-ended detachable button ioop strap (B) which consists of an elasticated strap (1) with two button loops (2), one on each end. The button loop strap is the attaching mechanism.
The double-ended straps can be added or removed as the user sees fit.
Figure 6 shows the front (A) and the back (B) of another embodiment of the Bra-to-Babydoll convertor. (1) Elasticated straps) (2) button loops, (3) buttons, (4) main garment body, (5) drape back, (6) button loop for opening and closing the garment, (7) drawstrings & (8) decorative ruffle edging. Although the main garment body (4) is visually different and an additional aesthetic element (decorative ruffle (8)) has been added, the design still features the button loop straps and double-ended detachable button loop straps (1) & (2) and buttons (3) for attaching it to the user's bra and the drawstrings (7) for tightening it. The style denoted in figure 6 opens at the side fastening via a standard button loop around one of the side buttons.
The garments depicted in figure 1 and figure 6 are attached by elasticated button loop straps (1 & 2)-the attaching mechanism, around the sides and front of a bra making it into a baby doll style negligee. The straps (1) open and have button loops (2) at the ends which allow them to fasten back onto the garment using buttons (3) -the fastening mechanism, once it has been looped around sides or centre front of the bra. An optional part of the attaching mechanism is also featured in figure 1 and figure 6: namely the double-ended detachable button loops straps (one elasticated strap (1) and two button loops (2)).
Other versions (embodiments) of the garment will include variations in the aesthetic style/design of the main body of the garment (4), therefore, they may open differently (i.e. at the side instead of the centre front). All versions of the Bra-to-Babydoll convertor will have a mechanism for attaching to the bra and fastening. The method denoted in Figure 1, 2 & 6 uses the elasticated loop straps (1) & (2) and buttons (3).
However, another method could involve using poppers and popper straps (see Figure 7).
Figure 7 shows an alternative attaching and fastening mechanism: Poppers and popper straps. Popper straps are wider (than button loop straps) but are still elasticated. Poppers have two parts; the male and the female, the two parts clip to each other in order to fasten. The male part of the popper (2) would be attached to the end of the elasticated strap (1) and the female part (3) would be attached to the top of the main body of the garment (4).
