Abstract

A joint system for a moses basket stand to prevent the rotational movement of a vertical leg and the horizontal rail of a moses basket stand when they are joined together. The leg has a shaped base of any configuration that fits into a similar shaped recess in the rail. The rail has a hole drilled through the rail at the midpoint of the recess, and is counter sunk to accommodate the head of a bolt that sits within the rail. The leg component has a blind hole for the insertion of a barrel nut that is a distance from the shaped base. When the leg and rail are brought together and the bolt is inserted through the hole in the rail and located into the barrel nut, the tightening of the bolt brings the shaped base of the leg and the shaped recess of the rail together. The leg and rail may be made from timber, manmade board, metal or plastic, or any suitable material.

Description
Single point mechanical connection relating to a Moses basket stand This application relates to any style, type or variation of a Moses basket stand whether static, rocking or a combination of the two and either fully assembled or flat packed in manufacture.
The focus of this application is up on the union, joint or connection of a Vertical component to a Horizontal component, namely a leg and a rail of a Moses basket stand made from any suitable material, be it natural timber, manmade board, metal or plastic.
This invention is aimed at making a safe, single mechanical connection between leg and rail components.
The key feature of this invention is in the "pocket shaped joint" (of any configuration), where by the shaped base of the leg component sits into an identical shaped recess on the rail.
The two components are then held together by means of a single "Barrel nut and bolt" (cylindrical rod with a threaded hole at 90 degrees some point along its length, usually central) The leg component has a blind hole (visible from one side only) for the insertion of the barrel nut, drilled in its face, centrally about its width, with a distance from the shaped base, suitable to avoid breakout, dependent on the material being used. (a guide figure of 15mm is recommended for timber and MDF) In my example the leg and rail material is MDF (medium density fibre board) using a Barrel nut of 10mm diameter x 15mm in length.
The rail component has the matching pocket shaped recess, with a hole drilled through the rail at the midpoint of the pocket shaped recess and exiting on the underside of the rail.
The hole through the rail also has a "counter bored" section (larger diameter hole than the main hole) on its underside, to allow the head of the bolt to sit within the rail, thus giving an uninterrupted line to the rail.
The leg and rail are brought together and the bolt inserted through the hole in the rail and located into the barrel nut, the bolt is tightened to bring the shaped base of the leg flush and parallel with the face of the rail.
The Pocket shaped recess (of any configuration) stops rotational movement whilst using a single mechanical connection; this is the key feature in this invention.
This invention allows for an easier and quicker assembly of two component parts with single mechanical connection

Claims (3)

  1. Page 2 Claims 1. A single point mechanical connection relating to a Moses basket stand, by the use of a pocket shaped joint (of any configuration) and a single barrel nut and bolt, aimed at stopping rotational movement between the two component parts and giving a quick and strong connection.
  2. 2. Rotational movement of one component compared to its counterpart is stopped due to the pocket shaped joint and a single barrel nut and bolt, according to claim 1.
  3. 3. The single point mechanical connection, solves rotational movement in claim 2, conventionally solved, by a two point mechanical connection or the use of dowel pegs or mortice and tennon joints.
