Abstract
A heater 10 comprises a heating mechanism 12 with a plurality of resistive heating elements 38, each resistive heating element defining a surface 40; and an air movement mechanism 14 to move air over the resistive heating element surfaces 40. The heater may be a portable space heater. The heating elements may be planar and/or coiled, or a planar spiral, and may be arranged in series, lying perpendicular to a heating element axis 16. The air movement mechanism 14 may be a fan 18 which may blow or suck air through the heating mechanism 12, in an air flow direction which may be parallel to the heating element axis 16. The heater may comprise a control system 50 to alter the electrical power supplied to the heating mechanism in response to a surface temperature of the heating mechanism measured by a temperature sensor 70. The heater may comprise a housing 36 that channels air over the heating mechanism 12. The heater is particular suitable for use in an explosive environment in accordance with ATEX 95.
