Abstract

The screwdriver includes a three piece cylindrical frame housing an internal rotatable gauge. The rotatable gauge in use aligns one of nine different screwdriver nibs or bits. The nibs are extended through a built-in spring system. The three piece cylindrical frame may be extended and contracted by pulling and pushing the frame from either end, thus exposing the gauge. Nine screwdriver nibs may be housed within the frame thereby eliminating the need to handle each nib individually. The screwdriver may be used to replace a set of watchmakers screwdrivers.

Description
The concept screwdriver is simply one screwdriver that covers the entire range of watchmakers' screwdrivers that are currently marketed as sets. You can buy a set of watchmaker's screwdrivers that start with a 6 piece set that goes up to 10 pieces in a set. In all these sets, each individual screwdriver has a simple metal frame, which holds the relevant nib size in place by a small perpendicular screw on the side. When nibs are worn out, they are replaced by unscrewing this small side screw and replacing these nibs.
The image below shows a few examples of what a typical watchmaker's screwdriver set looks like The table below summarizes the diameter of the 9 most commonly used screwdrivers.
The concept screwdriver addresses two common problems that exist with all these current sets of screwdrivers. Firstly, having a single screwdriver that covers the entire range provides comfort, easy use, and takes up much less space than having 6-10 different screwdrivers around. Secondly, by having all the nibs stored inside the screwdrivers' frame and by having a built-in gauge unit that allows users to choose and extend the nib size they need; the nibs' quality is immediately prolonged by maintaining the integrity and minimizing risk of damage to each nib. Furthermore the design of the concept screwdriver means that when nibs are eventually worn and need replacing, they can simply be removed by pulling out the old nib, each connected to its unique connecting rod and pushing in a new one. This method does not require the use of additional smaller screws needed to lock in each nib. This greatly improves users experience by reducing maintenance required, user's time and space. Furthermore, overtime, these smaller side screws can either be lost, or simply get worn over time, which most of the times results in nibs just falling off.
As the line diagrams in the following attachments shows, using the concept screwdriver involves 2 simple steps. Step 1: Extend the screwdriver frame to expose the gauge wheel & choose the 0 appropriate size between 1-9 by extending the connecting rod linked to that size. Step 2: contract or close the frame and use appropriately. To change the nib, you would simply need to pull the nib that requires to be changed, and push in a new one. Additional nibs can be stored within the storage unit, located just under the head cap.
The concept screwdriver has a three piece cylindrical frame, which acts as the main body. This can be easily extended & contracted simply by pulling and pushing the frame from either end. In the extended position, the internal gauge unit would be exposed. This gauge enables users to choose and align a specific screwdriver nib size by selecting from a range of 9 different sizes. The selected size would be ready for use immediately simply by closing the frame by pushing it inwards.
Built with only 15 major parts, the concept screwdriver has a very simple construction. The table below summarizes each part's brief position & function.
