Abstract
252,364. Baur. W. May 20, 1925, [Convention date]. Japanning; varnishes.-Stationary structures such as bridges, or difficulty movable objects of iron, wood, &c. are coated by applying to them a refractory varnish or paint and burning it in by a movable hot air blast or the like by heating it from 50 to 600‹ C. A suitable coating material may be made from ester gums with castor oil and metal oxide driers, and a pigment or filler of metal powder. In an example castor oil is heated with 5-10 per cent of metal oxides, such as those of lead, zinc, or cobalt. The cooled product is soluble in solvents such as turpentine. benzine, or benzol, and can be mixed with varnish constituents such as ester gum, drying oils, metal powders, &c. The burning in may be effected by hot air blast, or by a blast similar to a brazier's lamp, but in which the flame does not contact with the work or pressure jet apparatus or a spraying pistol. The work is rendered moisture free by hot air before coating. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3 (a) describes the temperature of burning in as 600‹ C. or over. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
