Description
Glove Box for a Vehicle The invention relates to a glove box for a vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Such a glove box can be found in JR 2000 335 315. The glove box comprises at least one glove box bin and at least one lid pivotably mounted on the glove box bin via at least one lever assembly. The glove box bin has at least one receiving space in which little items such as gloves, cans, and/or other items can be stored.
The lid is pivotable between at least one closed position and at least one open position. In the closed position at least a portion of the glove box bin is covered by the lid, the portion being uncovered in the open position. Thereby, items can be arranged in the receiving space whilst the lid is in its open position. In the closed position the items arranged in the receiving space cannot fall out of the receiving space. Glove boxes for vehicles can also be found in KR 100867703, JR 2001185358, JR 2005262986, KR 20060067369, and JR 2005324668.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a glove box having a particularly advantageous usability.
This object is solved by a glove box having the features of patent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments with expedient and non-trivial developments of the invention are indicated in the other patent claims.
In order to provide a glove box indicated in the preamble of patent claim 1, the glove box having a particularly advantageous usability, according to the present invention, the lever assembly comprises a first lever pivotably connected to the lid on the one side. On the other side the first lever is pivotably connected to the glove box bin. The lever assembly further comprises at least one second lever pivotably connected to the lid on the one side.
The second lever is pivotably connected to the glove box bin on the other side via at least one guide. The second lever can be slid along the guide in relation to the glove box bin.
Thereby, it is possible to move the lid between at least three different positions. A first one of said positions is, for example, the open position. A second one of said positions is, for example, the closed position. The third position can be a so-called table position of the lid.
In the table position at least a portion of the lid is, for example, raised in the vertical direction of the vehicle towards the top in comparison with the closed position and the open position, so that, for example, at least one surface of the lid extends at least substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction of the vehicle.
Thus, items such as drinking cans, laptop computers, tablet computers, and/or other items can be placed onto the surface and operated by a passenger of the vehicle very ergonomically. Hence, there is no need to provide a separable tray for holding items since the lid itself can be used as a tray in addition to acting as a cover for the glove box bin.
The table position in which said tray function of the lid can be realized is a very ergonomic and convenient position for the passenger. In other words, the lid, in particular the surface of the lid, can be used as a convenient platform for items such as but not limited to laptop computers, books, food items and/or other electronic items. Furthermore, it is possible to configure the glove box in such a way that no hinge axis is visible on a class A surface.
Thus, a particularly advantageous design of the glove box can be realized.
Further advantages, features, and details of the invention derive from the following description of preferred embodiments as well as from the drawing. The features and feature combinations previously mentioned in the description as well as the features and feature combinations mentioned in the following description of the figures and/or shown in the figures alone can be employed not only in the respective indicated combination but also in other combination or taken alone without leaving the scope of the invention.

In the Figs. the same elements or elements having the same function are designated with the same reference sign.
Fig. 1 shows a glove box 10 for a vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle. The glove box 10 comprises at least one glove box bin 12. As can be seen from Fig. 1, the glove box bin 12 has at least one receiving space 14 in which little items such as drinking cans, gloves, and/or other items can be stored.
The glove box 10 also comprises at least one lid 16. In the assembled state of the glove box 10, the lid 16 is pivotably mounted on the glove box bin 12 via at least one lateral lever assembly 18. The lid 16 is pivotable between at least three different positions in relation to the glove box bin 12. A first one of said positions is shown in Fig. 2, the first position being a so-called closed position. In the closed position at least a portion of the glove box bin 12 is covered by the lid 16 so that items arranged in the receiving space 14 cannot fall out of the receiving space 14.
A second one of said positions is a so-called open position of the lid 16. This open position is shown in Fig. 4. In the open position, the portion of the glove box bin 12 is uncovered so that items can be arranged in the receiving space 14. The third position is a so-called table position of the lid 16, the table position being shown in Figs. 6 and 8.
As can be seen from Fig. 1, the lever assembly 18 comprises a first lever 20 and a second lever 22. As can be seen from Figs. 2, 4, 6 and 8, the first lever 20 is pivotably connected to the lid 16 on the one side. On the other side the first lever 20 is pivotably connected to the glove box bin 12. The second lever 22 is pivotably connected to the lid 15 on the one side. On the other side, the second lever 22 is pivotably connected to the glove box bin 12. Moreover, the second lever 22 is pivotably connected to the glove box bin 12 on the other side via at least one guide 24 along which the second lever 22 is slidable in relation to the glove box bin 12. The guide 24 is configured as a long slot which is also referred to as a "long hole" or an "elongated hole". The long slot is curved. The second lever 22 engages the guide 24 so that the second lever 22 is guided by the guide 24 when the second lever 22 is slid along the guide 24.
As can be seen from Figs. 2 and 4, the second lever 22 can be slid between two end positions along the guide 24. A first one of said end positions is shown in Fig. 2, the second end position being shown in Fig. 4. As can be seen from Fig. 1, the glove box 10 also comprises a covering element in the form of a net 26 which is coupled to the lid 16 and the glove box bin 12.
The glove box 10 also has a main latch not shown in the Figs. By means of the main latch the lid 16 is locked to the glove box bin 12 in the closed position. Thus, the lid 16 cannot be moved from the closed position into, for example, the open position.
In order to move the lid 16 from the closed position shown in Fig. 2 into the open position shown in Fig. 4, the main latch is disengaged. Thus, the lid 16 can be pivoted away from the glove box bin 12 so that the second lever 22 can slide along the guide 24 from the first end position into the second end position. During this movement, the first lever 20 is locked to the glove box bin 12. The box 10 comprises a locking device not shown in the Figs., the locking device serving for locking the first lever 20 to the glove box bin 12 whilst the second lever 22 is slidable along the guide 24 and pivotable in relation to the glove box bin 12 and the lid 16. By locking the first lever 20 to the glove box bin 12. the lid 16 can be moved from the closed position into the open position by sliding the second lever 22 along the guide 24 and pivoting the second lever 22 in relation to the glove box bin 12 and the lid 16 whilst the first lever 20 cannot be pivoted in relation to the glove box bin 12 but in relation to the lid 16.
Fig. 3 shows the lever assembly 18 in the closed position of the lid 16. Fig. 3 also shows a virtual link 28 representing the lid 16. The movement of the levers 20, 22 during the movement of the lid 16 from its closed position into its open position is illustrated by directional arrows in Fig. 3.
Fig. 4 shows the lid 16 in the open position in which items can be arranged in the receiving space 14. Fig. 5 shows the lever assembly 16 in the open position of the lid 16.
In order to move the lid 16 from the open position shown in Fig. 4 into the table position shown in Figs. 6 and 8, the first lever 20 is unlocked from the glove box bin 12, for example, by releasing the locking device. Thus, the first lever 20 cannot only be pivoted in relation to the lid 16 but also in relation to the glove box bin 12. Thus, the lid 16 can be lifted from the open position into the table position. The lid 16 can be lifted manually.
Moreover, it is possible to use at least one actuator, for example, an electric motor to lift the lid 16 from the open position into the table position very comfortably.
Preferably, the second lever 22 is locked to the glove box bin 12 in such a way that the second lever 22 cannot be slid along the guide 24 in relation to the glove box bin 12 whilst the lid 16 is moved from the open position into the table position. Thus, the second lever 22 is locked in his second end position whilst the lid 16 is moved into the table position.
After the final intended table position of the lid 16 is reached, at least one stopper prevents the lid 16 from further movement.
Since the net 26 is connected to the glove box bin 12 on the one side and to the lid 16 on the other side, the net 26 is moved from a stowage position shown in Figs. 2 and 4 into at least one covering position shown in Fig. 6 by moving the lid 16 from the open position into the table position. In the covering position atleasta portion of the glove box bin 12, in particular the receiving space 14 is covered by the net 26 so that items stored in the receiving space 14 are prevented from falling out of the receiving space 14 by means of the net 26 being in its covering position.
Fig. 5 shows the lever assembly 18 in the open position of the lid 16. The movement of the levers 20, 22 during the movement of the lid 16 from the opened position into the table position is illustrated in Fig. 5 by directional arrows. Fig. 7 shows the lever assembly 18 in the table position of the lid 16.
The lid 16 can be moved from the closed position into the open position manually.
Moreover, it is possible to use at least one actuator, in particular an electric motor to move the lid 16 from the closed position into the open position. In order to effect the movement of the lid 16 from the closed position into the open position and/or from the open position into the table position by means of the respective actuator, separate or combined switches for actuating the respective actuator can be provided.
Preferably, the glove box 10 can comprise at least one cover for covering the lever 20 and/or the lever 22 so that the lever assembly 18 can be hidden, for example, to improve aesthetics.
As can be seen in Fig. 8, a surface 30 of the lid 16 extends at least substantially parallel to the transverse direction of the vehicle and the longitudinal direction of the vehicle in the table position of the lid 16. Thus, items such as drinking cans, tablet computers, laptop computers, books, food, other electronic items, and/or other items can be placed onto the surface 30 and, for example, operated by a passenger very ergonomically. Such a passenger is illustrated by dummies 32, 34, the dummy 32 representing a 95 % male and dummy 34 representing a 5 % female.
With regard to the closed position of the lid 16, the surface 30 is an inner surface of the lid 16 since the surface 30 faces the receiving space 14 in the closed position. The glove box 10 is a so-called front loader glove box, wherein the lid 16 can be used as a flat platform in the table position without compromising the volume of the receiving space 14.
The lid 16 can be used as a table in the table position as well as a cover for stored items in the receiving space 14 in the closed position. Moreover, due to integrating the net 26, items stored in the receiving space 14 are not exposed and prevented from falling out of the receiving space 14 when the vehicle is in motion and the lid 16 is in the table position.
Moreover, no hinge line is visible on class A surfaces. Thereby, a particularly advantageous design can be realized. As can be seen from Fig. 10, a great clearance between the lid 16 and the knee of the passenger can be realized in the table position of the lid 16. Thus, a very ergonomic position of the lid 16 can be realized in the table position. Since the lid 16 is not moving inside the glove box bin 12, the usable volume of the receiving space 14 is not compromised. Moreover, the lid 16 can have a curved outside surface and still be used as a flat table in the table position. Furthermore, a better effective length of the lid 16 can be realized.
As can be seen from Fig. 9, the surface 30 can have receptacles 36, 38. For example, the receptacle 36 is a support for a tablet computer and can be used as a pen holder. The receptacle 38 can be a cup holder which can be thermal or non-thermal.
Moreover, in Fig. 9 an extendable tray 40 mounted on the lid 16 can be seen. The tray 40 is slidably mounted on the lid 16. As can be seen from Fig. 10, the tray 40 can be slid between at least one stowage position and at least one use position shown in Fig. 10. In order to move the tray 40 from the stowage position into the use position, the tray 40 is slide in relation to the lid 1 as illustrated by directional arrow in Fig. 10.
Figs. 11 and 12 show a further embodiment in which the tray 40 is pivotably mounted on the lid 16. In order to move the tray 40 from the stowage position into the use position, the tray 40 is pivoted in relation to the lid 16. Fig. 11 illustrates the movement of the tray 40 from the stowage position into the use position. Fig. 12 shows the use position of the tray 40. As can be seen in Fig. 13, the lid 16 can also be slidably mounted on the glove box bin 12. This is illustrated by a directional arrow in Fig. 13. Thus, the lid 16 can be slid away from and towards the glove box bin 12 by the passenger in a need-based manner.
As can be seen in Fig. 14, the surface 30 of the lid 16 can have a holding element 42 designed as a coin holder and/or a card holder. The lid 16 can be equipped with at least one heating and/or cooling element. Thereby, drinking cans arranged at least partially in the cup holder can be cooled and/or heated by the cooling element or the heating element. Alternatively or additionally, the heating element or the cooling element can be used to heat or cool food arranged on the surface 30.
