Abstract

A guitar rack comprises a hook at one end of an arm and a claw at the other. The unit hooks under the handle 2 of the amp 1 and has an arm 4 running across the top of the amp to the side where the rack section is located. The rack section 5 is like a conventional guitar rack commonly used in music shop displays where the guitar hangs by its headstock. The downwards force of the guitar pulls upwards on the amp handle and secures it in place. Preferably constructed from steel or strong plastic and featuring an extendable arm section for various size amps. Possible variations include a unit accommodating two guitars back to back, and a karabiner style gate clip on the hook. Arms 6 extending to the sides of the rack provide extra stability.

Description

I
Description.
The amp mounted guitar rack My invention is a guitar rack that is capable of being temporarily mounted to the top of a guitar amplifier stack' or half stack' style set up, or similar speaker stack, having a hook and possibly a clip (a karabiner style spring gate) that loops underneath the handle of the amplifier head or speaker, an arm that extends off the edge of the amp or speaker stack to where the claw/rack section is located and the guitar can hang by its head. The claw/rack section is a conventional stand configuration: Two prongs set apart approx. 70mm both slightly turned upwards (to prevent slipping off) forming a claw shape to produce a guitar rack system that will allow the neck of the instrument to sit inside it suspended by the instruments headstock.
The arm section could be adjustable length with a retractable/telescopic section, so amps/speakers of various dimensions can accommodate the unit. The claw/rack section will also have safety flaps' on the end that fold down while in use holding the guitar in for additional security.
Other guitar racks/stands available either stand alone on the floor, freely and unfixed, not hanging, meaning the instrument is not secured and can be knocked or kicked over, or they simply comprise the basic claw/rack section-sometimes with aforementioned safety flaps, and are made to be permanently fixed with screws allowing the guitar to hang on the wall.
My invention allows a guitar to be securely hung from the side of a large heavy amp or speaker, so the amp is essentially acting as the wall, but the unit is not permanently fixed. It can be quickly and easily unhooked and stowed away. This provides a safe, convenient easily accessible solution to guitar storage, clear from the path of passing people, wherever the amp is being used, weather (but not limited to) on stage, backstage, in rehearsal spaces and studios.
The unit will most likely be constructed from steel tube, aluminium or other suitable metal with the strength to hold the weight of an electric guitar. High density polyvinyl chloride type plastic may also be a possible option. It should also have sponge/rubber covering/sleeve where the unit will contact the guitar in order to protect the guitars finish.
The product should also be available with a simple variation of the hook so it can be used on recessed style speaker/amp handles, and possibly a folding claw/rack section for more compact storage.
A further significant variation on my design would be an extended arm' that protrudes further outwards supporting two claw/rack sections positioned so that two instruments can hang back to back in parallel to the way the amp faces, as opposed to one being hung to the side of the amp. The arm would have to go outwards far enough to give enough clearance for the guitars to hang freely without touching the amp/speaker. This can again be achieved with the use of a retractable/telescopic arm as mentioned before giving adjustable length depending on the size and style of the guitar body. It may also require two further arms to grip around the head from back to front with fixings to lightly clamp onto the head for stability, as the unit could be slightly unbalanced when there is only one guitar on it. Please see drawing No. 2/3
Statement of Invention.
My original invention is the concept of using a temporarily fixed unit to securely hang a musical instrument from the side or rear of a guitar amplifier or speaker stack.
Labels 1/3 1) Possible clip. I.e. spring gate style cUp like a karabiner.
2) Hook to pass under and over the amp handle.
3) Retractable/telescopic arm' section to allow easy adjustment.
4) Claw/rack' section. Guitars neck slots between and hangs by its headstock.
