THE G HOOK
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a simple G shaped hook that can be used to hang a carrying article like a handbag, purse. rucksack, other light luggage pieces or articles of clothing from a table next to the user, or from a chair or a door, to prevent them from being stolen or getting dirty from the floor or ground.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A prised object or one that contains items of value such as a woman's handbag needs to be kept clean and secure. When the object does not need to be accessed it must be kept securely under observation. In many social settings this is difficult and handbags or small items of portable luggage are left on the floor gathering dust and did or slung over chairs exposed to being stolen.
Some restaurants offer hooks attached to the underside of tables to hang these items. However, most social settings do not offer this facility. A temporary, practical and secure storage solution is needed.
Many solutions along these lines involve portable hooks. These are generally decorative and are carried inside the handbag or outside the item of portable luggage attached to the handle or strap. They are used to hang the handbag from the edge of a table or a chair back.
Examples of known portable hooks include patent number US20030150889 assigned to CAROSELLI and WANG describing a holder comprising two components; a base and a loop which supports the clothing article without compressing it. The leading end of the loop pivots from the outer edge of the base and the free end form a substantially closed 0-shaped hoop or C-shaped loop.
Though the metal construction of the holder is likely to be able to support substantial loads, the user may find it difficult threading a scarf through the hoop. Furthermore, preparing the hook for use by unfolding it and folding it after use may become annoying. The holder will also take up a large space within a carrying bag or other items of luggage making it difficult to transport.
Patent number FR2938171 assigned to BENAROUCH described several handbag suspending devices fastened either to a table leg or table top. However, each idea had some drawbacks in their design. The square shaped table leg hook can only fit one particular size of table leg. The round design has a limited diameter adjustment system. Furthermore, some tables have a single leg in the centre of the table, supporting the table top, thus it would be difficult for the user to reach under the table top and attach the hook to the table leg. The published designs that fix to the table top feature a screw mechanism to fix them to the table top. The devices were irregular in shape and lacked elegance and portability.
Patent number DE202005001993 assigned to HANGSCHLITT and SCHMITT described a bag hook comprising a circular base plate with a large C shaped hook that pivoted from the top of the base plate and looped around the edge of the table acting as a bag hook. The relatively large C shaped metal ring protrudes from the table edge when in in use and the device could be difficult to stow in a handbag due to its relatively large size and irregular shape.
Patent number FR2938284 assigned to HADJEZ and AZOULAI described an anti-theft device made up of three flat, semi-circular metal pieces, whereby the free ends of the intermediate piece are connected with the free ends of adjacent lateral pieces using pivoting fixations. The circular device is designed to loop around an arm of an armchair and secure the handles of a handbag within it. The design of the device is limited to be used on armchairs. The relatively large size of the device makes it difficult to stow in a handbag thus reducing its portability.
Patent number USD632095 assigned to LOSAW illustrated a purse hook that can fold flat consisting of an arrangement of a base plate that can rest on a table top in two different configurations, a hook that pivots from the base plate looping around the edge of the table in a U-shape and an intermediate horizontal projection pointing away from the table, acting as a secondary hook. The compact, flat design carries many benefits however the process of folding and unfolding the device correctly for use is a little complicated and impractical as there are many possible configurations.
Patent number FR2731336 assigned to PIERRON described a handbag hook comprising a plastic, non-slip plate and a hook; single or inverted, to hold the bag off the ground. The plate can be folded, form vertical to a horizontal position through a pivot running down the length of the plate, and placed on a table top while the hook remains vertical under the table. The design is flat and can be stored in a handbag however an internal, single action is still necessary to use the hook. In addition, the metallic free end of the hook can cause damage to the bag or its contents.
Patent number USD588444 assigned to PURSEHOOK LLC illustrated a hinged purse hook made up of two spring-loaded, semi-circular components that interlock into a circle when the hook is not in use. When opened the purse hook forms two C-shaped halves; the tip of one component rests on the table top and the other forms a hook to hang the handbag. The purse hook is chunky and takes a large space inside the handbag. Moreover, the continuous stretching of the spring can cause it to wear over time and fail as a vital component of the purse hook.
ADVANTAGES OF INVENTION
This patent is for a device that is practical and has several advantages over previous art. The design of the device is simple and can be cheaply mass produced out of plastic or metal. It is monolithic and has no moving parts. It is easy to use in a single step and does not require folding or unfolding. It fits most common table top sizes, and can hook over most chairs and doors. It can be used to attach the article to the edge of a table, the back of the user's chair or the free top edge of a cubicle door. It is smooth, flat and slightly smaller than a credit card so that it can fit inside a credit card slot of a wallet, a purse or a handbag when not in use.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
The present invention concerns a device featuring a G shaped hook made of a single piece of metal, plastic or other rigid material (Fig. 1). The hook is slightly smaller in width and length compared to the standard width and length of a standard credit card. This reduction in size compensates for the slightly thicker material of the hook which enables it to be stored in the standard credit card slot of a wallet or a handbag when not in use.
The ci hook has a flat notched surface which is usually placed on the top flat surface of the supporting structure (e.g. a table) and a hooked end to support the article to be kept off the floor or ground. The thickness of the whole structure of the ci hook and the type of material that the hook is made of can vary to accommodate the loads that are required to be carried.
The ci hook can be used with the notched flat surface either on the top or the bottom. On a flat surface, like a table top, the flat notched surface is used at the top to hook it to the table (Fig. 3). On a broad flat surface, like the free top of a door, the notch on theG hook prevents it from slipping off the supporting surface (Fig. 4). On a narrow rounded edge like the back of a chair or the free top edge of a cubicle door, the ci hook is used in the upside-down position where the deep hooked end is used at the top to prevent it slipping off the back of the chair (Fig. 5).
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The characteristics of the invention described below relate to the following drawings, given as non-restrictive examples of the preferential forms of embodiments: FIG. 1: is a right side view of the single piece bag hook according to the present invention.
FIG. 2: is an isometric view of the device of FIG.1.
FIG. 3: is a right side view showing the invention in use supporting an object
on a table end.
FIG. 4: is a right side view showing the invention in use supporting an object behind a door.
FIG. 5: is a right side view showing the invention in use supporting an object behind a wide rounded top surface of a back of a chair.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
FIG.1 shows a right side view of the G hook. The body of the hook (1) includes an upper notched surface (2) that contains a notch (3). Said device also includes a flat surface (4) terminating on a hooked end (5) on which the article to be carried is placed. The hooked end (5) of said device ensures that the article carried by said device will not slip off. The notch (3) on the upper notched surface (2) ensures that the carried article will not slip off when the hook is used under certain circumstances in the up-side-down position.
The dimensions of the G hook are slightly smaller, but not restricted to, the size of a standard credit card. This reduction in size compensates for the slightly thicker material of the hook compared to that of a credit card which enables it to be stored in the standard credit card slot of a wallet, purse or handbag when not in use. This makes said device easy and convenient to carry around for the user, and also makes it easily accessible and difficult to lose. However, these dimensions are not fixed and in other embodiments the dimensions of the G hook can be varied depending on the required use.
FIG. 2 shows an isometric view of the G hook. The featured rounded corners (6) of said device, as well as making it look more aesthetically pleasing, prevent damage to the carried articles.
FIG. 3 shows the details of the G hook in use. The attributes of the features of the drawing are not meant to limit the use of the design, but simply to provide a framework of the position in which the device will operate. The device as shown is hooked onto a table (7) with the flat notched surface (2) at the top. The hooked end (5) prevents the handle of the carried object (8) from slipping off.
FIG. 4 shows the device hooked onto the free top surface of a cubicle door (9). The notch (3) of the notched surface (2) prevents the hook from slipping off the broad top surface of the door. The hooked end (5) prevents the handle of the carried object (8) from slipping off.
FIG. 5 shows the device hooked onto the curved broad surface of the back of a chair (10). The device, in this case is used in the up-side-down position and the hooked end (5) of the C hook prevents the device from slipping off the wide curved surface. In this case, the notch (3) of the notched surface (2) prevents the handle of the carried object (8) from slipping off. -10-
