Water, distilling.-In steam power plants from which large quantities of steam are taken off for use as heating steam, the steam taken off is generated from fresh water by indirect contact with tapped steam, the condensate of the tapped steam being returned to the boiler. An evaporator e supplied with fresh water through a pipe f is heated by steam taken from a stage of a turbine b through a pipe d. The condensate from the evaporator and the condensate from the main condenser c are returned to the boiler a by a pump i. The fresh water supplied to the evaporator may be first used as the cooling water of the main condenser. The evaporator or a number of evaporators arranged in series may be placed between two pressure systems.
