Description
Wheel Chock for a Vehicle, in particular a Commercial Vehicle The invention relates to a wheel chock for a vehicle according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Such a wheel chock for a vehicle can be found in ER 0 796 775 Al. The wheel chock comprises at least one wedge for blocking a wheel of the vehicle so as to prevent at least rotational movements of the wheel. In other words, the wheel chock serves to prevent accidental movements of the vehicle while the vehicle is parked, for example. It has been shown that, usually, storing the wheel chock and fixing it to the vehicle is cumbersome and complicated. Conventionally, the wheel chock is fixed to a mounting bracket attached to the vehicle, wherein the wheel chock is fixed to the mounting bracket by means of separate wires and/or elastic bands.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a wheel chock which can be stored and fixed in a particularly easy way.
This object is solved by wheel chock having the features of patent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments with expedient developments of the invention are indicated in the other patent claims.
In order to provide a wheel chock of the kind indicated in the preamble of patent claim 1, which wheel chock can be stored and fixed in a particularly easy and comfortable way, according to the present invention the wheel chock comprises at least one latch which is movably mounted on the wedge and movable in relation to the wedge between at least one locking position and at least one unlocking position. In the locking position the latch is capable of being positively connected to a corresponding locking element of the vehicle so as to fix the wheel chock to the locking element and, thus, the vehicle since, for example, the locking element is attached to a body or a frame of the vehicle. In the unlocking position the latch is capable of being released from the locking elements so that the wheel chock can be loosened from the locking element and, thus, the vehicle and used to lock the wheel of the vehicle.
Since the latch is movably mounted on the wedge, the latch can be moved between the locking position and the unlocking position particularly easily and comfortably while the latch is arranged on the wedge. For example, a snap lock can be realized by means of the latch so that the wheel chock can be fixed to the locking element particularly easy and fast by means of the snap lock. For example, such a snap lock allows for locking and unlocking the wheel chock from a mounting bracket attached to the vehicle. Thus, the mounting bracket can be placed in at least substantially any position. Moreover, separate fixing means such as separate elastic bands or wires as well as safety means are not necessary for attaching the wheel chock to the vehicle. Moreover, a person such as the driver of the vehicle can lock and unlock, i. e. operate the latch by one hand.
The invention also relates to a mounting assembly for a vehicle, the mounting assembly comprising a wheel chock according to the present invention, and a mounting bracket having the locking element, wherein the wheel chock is fixed to the mounting bracket by means of the latch which is positively connected to the locking element. Advantages and advantageous embodiments of the wheel chock according to the present invention are to be regarded as advantages and advantageous embodiments of the mounting assembly according to the present invention and vice versa. Since, in the mounting assembly, the latch is used to firmly fix the wheel chock to the mounting bracket and, thus, the vehicle, the wheel chock as well as the mounting bracket can be manufactured in a cost-efficient way since the number of parts can be kept to a minimum and the design can be kept particularly simple. In other words, the mounting assembly allows for fixing the wheel chock to the mounting bracket in a very simple and cost-efficient way. Moreover, the mounting bracket can be arranged in any direction on, for example, a frame of the vehicle since the latch is configured to be positively connected to the corresponding element thereby firmly fixing the wheel chock to the vehicle.
Further advantages, features, and details of the invention derive from the following description of the preferred embodiment as well as from the drawing. The features and feature combinations previously mentioned in the description as well as the features and feature combinations mentioned in the following description of the figures and/or shown in the figures alone can be employed not only in the respective indicated combination but also in any other combinations or taken alone without leaving the scope of the invention.
The drawing shows in: Fig. 1 a schematic perspective view of a wheel chock for a vehicle; Fig. 2 a further schematic perspective view of the wheel chock comprising a wedge and a latch which is movably mounted on the wedge and movable in relation to the wedge between at least one locking position and at least one unlocking position; Fig. 3 part of a schematic perspective view of the wheel chocks; Fig. 4 a schematic perspective view of a mounting bracket configured to be attached to a frame of the vehicle, the wheel chock being capable of being fixed to the mounting bracket and, thus, the frame; Fig. 5 a schematic perspective view of a mounting assembly comprising the wheel chock and the mounting bracket to which the wheel chock is fixed; Fig. 6 part of a schematic side view of the mounting assembly: Fig. 7 a schematic perspective view of springs of the wheel chock; and Fig. 8a-e respective schematic side views of the mounting assembly.
In the figures the same elements or elements having the same functions are indicated by the same reference signs.
Figs. 1 and 2 show a wheel chock 10 for a vehicle, in particular a commercial vehicle. The wheel chock 10 comprises a wedge 12 which is configured as, for example, an extruded section. For example, the wedge 12 is made of a metallic material. As can be seen from Fig. 1, the wedge 12 serves for blocking at least one wheel 14 of the vehicle so as to prevent at least rotational movements of the wheel and, thus, accidental movements of the vehicle, when, for example, the vehicle is parked, in particular on a slope.
The vehicle comprises a frame and at least one body attached to the frame. In order to firmly fix the wheel chock 10 to the vehicle in a particularly easy and comfortable way, the wheel chock 10 comprises at least one latch 16 which can be seen particularly well in Fig. 3. The latch 16 is movably mounted on the wedge 12 and can be moved in relation to the wedge 12 between at least one locking position indicated by L in Fig. 6 and at least one unlocking position indicated by U in Fig. 6 in relation to the wedge 12. In the present case, the latch 16 is movable about a pivot axis 18 in relation to the wedge 12 between the locking position L and the unlocking position U. Fig. 4 shows a mounting bracket 20 which is made of sheet metal, the mounting bracket being configured to receive the wheel chock 10 at least partially, wherein the wheel chock 10 can be fixed to the mounting bracket 20 as shown in Fig. 5. The mounting bracket 20 is configured to be attached to said frame so that the wheel chock 10 can be firmly fixed to the frame and, thus, the vehicle via the mounting bracket 20. As can be seen from Figs. 4 to 6, the mounting bracket 20 comprises at least one locking element 22 formed by a flap of the mounting bracket 20. In the locking position L the latch 16 is capable of being positively connected to the corresponding locking element 22 so as to fix the wheel chock 10 to the locking element 22 and, thus, the mounting bracket 20 and the frame. In the unlocking position U the latch 16 is capable of being released from the locking element 22so that the wheel chock 10 can be loosened from the mounting bracket 20 and the frame. Since, in the locking position L, the latch 16 is connected to the locking element 22 by a form-fit, the wheel chock 10 is particularly firmly fixed to the mounting bracket 20 in a very simple and, thus, cost-efficient way.
A direction arrow 24 in Fig. 4 illustrates that the flap forming the locking element 22 is elastically movable in relation to a base element 26 of the mounting bracket 20, the base element 26 and the locking element 22 (flap) being formed in one piece. By elastically moving the flap and, thus, the locking element 22 in relation to the base element 26, the locking element 22 can de decoupled from the latch 16 so that the wheel chock 10 can be loosened and moved away from the mounting bracket 20 and, thus, the frame. In Fig. 6, solid lines show the wheel chock 10 being locked and fixed to the mounting bracket 20 by means of the latch 16. Dashed lines in Fig. 6 show the wheel chock 10 being released from the mounting bracket 20 so that the wheel chock 10 can be moved away from the mounting bracket 20 as illustrated by a direction arrow 28.
Fig. 5 shows a mounting assembly for the vehicle, said mounting assembly comprising the mounting bracket 20 and the wheel chock 10. In the mounting assembly, the wheel chock 10 is firmly fixed to the mounting bracket 20 by means of the latch 16 positively connected to the locking element 22. The mounting assembly allows for locking and unlocking the wheel chock 10 in a particularly easy and comfortable way by a single hand of a person.
As can be seen particularly well in Fig. 6, the latch 16 comprises a latch portion 30 configured to be positively connected to the locking element 22. Moreover, the latch 16 comprises a handle portion 32 via which the latch 16 is pivotable about the pivot axis 18 by a single hand of a person such as the driver of the vehicle. The pivot axis 18 is arranged between the latch portion 30 and the handle portion 32, wherein the handle portion 32 has a greater length than the latch portion 30. Moreover, as can be seen from Figs. 2, 3 and 5, the wheel chock 10 comprises a rigid handle 34 which is rigidly mounted on the wedge 12. At least the handle portion 32 is arranged between the handle 34 and the wedge 12 thereby overlapping the handle 34 at least partially.
When a person grips the handle 34 by their hand the person simultaneously grips the handle portion 32 so that the person can easily move the latch 16 from, for example, the locking position L into the unlocking position U. Thus, the person can lock and unlock the wheel chock 10 from the mounting bracket 20 in a particularly easy, fast and comfortable way.
Fig. 7 shows springs 36 of the wheel chock 10. For example, the springs 36 are supported on the wedge 12 and/or the handle 34 and the latch 16, wherein the springs 36 are configured to be loaded or tensioned by moving the latch 16 from the locking position L into the unlocking position U. Moreover, the springs 36 are configured to exert respective spring forces on the latch 16 in the unlocking position U. Thus, when the person releases the handle 34 and the latch 16, the latch 16 is moved from the unlocking position U into the locking position L by the springs 36 which can relax when the person releases the latch 16.
Figs. Sa-e show a procedure to unlock the wheel chock 10 from the mounting bracket 20.
In Fig. Ba, the wheel chock 10 is firmly fixed to the mounting bracket 20 by means of the latch 16 and the locking element 22. In a first step shown in Fig. Sb, the latch 16 is moved from the locking position L into the unlocking position U. Moreover, for example, the flap forming the locking element 22 is elastically moved away from the wheel chock 10. In a second step shown in Fig. Sc, the wheel chock 10 can then be pulled out of the mounting bracket 20. In further steps shown in Figs. 8d and 8e the wheel chock 10 can then be fully removed out of the mounting bracket 20 so that the wedge 12 can be used to block the wheel 14.
