Abstract
252,112. Poller, A. May 14, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Fibrous plastic compositions.- A composition applicable for moulding parts of living bodies comprises a mucilage obtained from sea-wracks, mosses, or algaceous plants in general, to which is added a proportion of short animal, vegetable, or mineral fibres. To this may be added iron oxide or other " colloidal metallic oxides " to improve the adherence of the mucilage to the fibres. The strength and resilience may be increased by the addition of long fibres, and by injection into the melted mass, while stirring, a solution of indiarubber, whereby a filamentary network of rubber is produced which permeates the whole. Suitable proportions are : agar agar 1,000 gm., water 20,000 gm., short fibrous cellulose 200 gm., iron oxide 500 gm., long fibres 10 gm., rubber 250 gm. The mixture is heated until it is viscous and applied to the surface of a body of which a cast is to be made, with a brush or spatula. Cosmetics and medicinal preparations may be added.
