Abstract

A text/voice pager is able to identify and detect a message reception state and a current signal strength state and informing a console of the detecting result with an acknowledgement (Ack) message via a GSM system (using SMS, for example). Each pager from a pager group can also detect whether a received message is complete and of sufficient resolution, and transmitting an appropriate Ack message to the console based. If the console receives an Ack message from a pager indicating incomplete message reception, the console can retransmit the message to the pager via the GSM system or a GPRS system. The pager also detects a signal strength so as to automatically transmit an Ack message if out of a communication range or in an area of low signal strength, and if so to retransmit or forward messages via the GSM/GPRS system until the pager is back in range.
