Abstract
A foldable wheelbarrow with removable legs, removable handles and a removable bag. The handles and legs can be removably attached to the barrows frame by screw threads. The frame can be folded in half along a centre axis; hinges can be mounted on its underside at the front and back. The wheelbarrows frame is held together by clasp locks. The barrow frame may be narrower at the front and wider at the back for aesthetics. The removable bag can be a canvas bag or moulded plastic. The barrow frame can be plastic or composite material. The wheelbarrow may be used for gardening and carrying leaves; it can be fully dismantled so it can be put in a bag for transporting.
Description
DESCRIPTION
A FOLDABLE WHEELBARROW
WITH A REMOVABLE BAG DESIGN
This idea came about after watching someone spend a lot of effort and time collecting falling leaves from their garden, placing them in their wheelbarrow, taking it to their compost bin to empty it, and because the barrow was too heavy and awkward to lift, then having to empty the barrow by hand, creating them more work and effort.
I also witnessed someone trying to drag a green bag of grass cuttings down the side of their house because it was too heavy for them to lift, if they had a facility for puffing this directly into a bag in a barrow, it would* save them a lot of lifting and dragging and easier movement of the materials, and this is how this original idea came about.
By creating this barrow with a removable lightweight bag, or a moulded plastic container, this will allow the person to fill the bag directly in the barrow, wheel the barrow to the location, and lift the bag directly from the barrow frame into the compost bin etc, without having to empty the wheelbarrow by hand, (page 6 diagrams will show the removable bag).
This will save a bit of time and importantly effort, and take away the awkwardness and weight of trying to lift and manoeuvre a normal wheelbarrow into a compost bin.
This will also allow easier transporting of bagged and contained garden materials from one place to another without having to double lift or by dragging bags around because they are to heavy.
The barrow is designed for gardeners and using in the garden, rather than building sites and construction workers, and is designed for the transporting, moving and lifting of lighter loads around the garden, ie Leaves and grass cuttings ete, although not limited to that only.
The barrow would be designed to take varying depth and sizes of bags, depending on the load and weight amounts required, and how easy it would be for the individual person to lift and manage varying bag sizes.
The barrow frame would be made out a lightweight, reinforced and strong Plastic I composite material, reducing the weight of a standard metal wheelbarrow.
The advantage of this would be, reduced handling weights, and non-corrosion, wear and tear etc of a standard metal barrow.
A typical shape of a standard barrow is the front end would be the wider part of the barrow, and the narrower end of the barrow is where the handles would be fitted.
This design is the opposite of that, so the wider section is at the back, and the narrower section is at the front (more like a shopping trolley shape).
This was designed this way because it allows a better shaping of the removable bag, ie better aesthetics and design looks.
Some of the key features of the bag barrow is that not only do you have the removable bag, but it is also been designed that it can be be broken down into separate components, folded in half, packaged into purpose made bags allowing for easy transporting and handling of the product, (page 13 diagram).
The handles are removable via a screw thread on the end, and will allow the removal of both handles, (page 3 diagram).
The legs also have a screw thread on the end, and this will allow the removal of both legs, (page 3 diagram).
The front wheel is attached to the two wheel support legs via a screw thread spindle; this can be undone to remove the barrow wheel from the leg supports, (page 3 Diagram).
The two legs supports are attached to the underside of the front of the barrow frame, using housing brackets, and can be removed via two Allen key attachment screws, (page 4).
The frame has two fixing clasps, one at the front, and one at the back of the barrow frame, (page 4); it also has two hinges located on the underside of the frame.
The frame is made in two sections, split down the middle, and held together by the hinges and locked in place by the two fixing clasps at the front and back.
Once the clasps have been released, the frame will then be free to fold together on the hinges, (page 4 diagram), reducing the size of the frame by half.
Once the frame has been folded, a latch will hold the two sections in place and together.
The folding barrow frame and separate legs, handles etc will reduce the size of the barrow by at least half it's original size, allowing for easy transporting of the product, much easier handling of the product, (this could be fitted into a large carry bag for ease), could also be fitted into a normal family sized car boot for example, (a normal wheelbarrow you would struggle to do that), and also allow for easier storing of the barrow when not in use.
Key Points: Foldable design Modular Construction Easier handling Easier transporting Lightweight but strong Removable bag/carrier system Flexible load carrying using various depth of inner bags Can Save effort arid time 13 pages of drawings and designs included Drawings: Page 1: x2 views of barrow with bag inserted Page 2: view of barrow from back with bag attached and view of frame from above without bag Page 3: Views showing wheel with spindle and leg brackets, also showing diagram of removable handles and legs Page 4: Views of how frame will hinge and fold together, and the underside of the frame showing the clasp locking, the hinges and the leg support brackets Page 5: views showing the side elevation and plan elevation without the bag inserted Page 6: Views showing the removable bag and how it fits into the barrow frame Page 7,8 & 9: Views of barrow design in colour with and without the bag Page 10 & 11: Showing folded frame without legs, handles, wheel and supports dettached.
