Abstract
A motor-powered adaptor for focusing a telescope (8, figure 2) allows adjustment of the focal image without manual adjustment of the telescope. The adaptor may consist of a power input port 1, a motor mount bracket hole 2, a focus knob pulley adaptor 3, a pulley belt 4, motor pulley 5, and electric motor 6. The motor mount bracket hole may be placed over the thread of the rear visual locking nut (6, figure 2).
Description
GSKyfocuser What is the purpose of the GSkyfocuser? The Gskyfocuser isa motor powered adaption, which aids the focusing of a telescope. The Gskyfocuser enables the user to adjust the focal image seen through the telescope, without the use of manually adjusting the telescope's focus knob.
How does it work? The motor mounting bracket, which houses the electrically powered motor, is placed over the thread of the rear visual locking nut. Once the motor mounting bracket has been fitted, a pulley adaptor' is secured (by pressure) around the circumference of the telescope's focus knob. The pulley adaptor has a circumferential grove which enables a drive belt to be attached from the motor mounting bracket, which in turn, can rotate the focus knob. This rotation is enabled bya pulley which is located on the shaft of the electrical motor. The motor is powered by either the telescope's electrical output (only applicable on certain telescopes) or an external power adaptor. A communications cable' is connected from the power output port (of either the telescope or external power adaptor) into the motor's power input port. The electrical requirement from the output, determines the rotational speed of the pulley, and subsequently, the focus knob.
Unique qualities from other auto focusers The GSKyfocuser differs from any other auto focuser as it is able to be fitted to any telescope with a rear visual locking nut. The size of the telescope determines the diameter of the motor mounting bracket hole (which is placed over the thread of the rear visual locking nut) and can be custom made on request ofan order.
In the event of continued developments in wireless electricity transfer, the communications cable would no longer be required, as the motor could be developed to wirelessly receive the necessary power from the power source.
Furthermore, its unique design enables an imaging device/s to be fitted to the telescope whilst the motor mounting bracket remains in place. An imaging device can therefore be used in conjunction with the GSkyfocuser.
