Abstract

A lamp holder 10 comprises means for preventing accidental fitting of an electrically non-compatible lamp. The lamp holder 10 has a body with a socket for receiving a complementary lamp base 32 of a lamp 30. A pillar 22 is arranged to prevent any base 32 not having a complementary recess 36, for receiving the said pillar 22, from fitting into the lamp holder 10. The pillar 22 may have a rectangular, square or circular cross section and it may extend from an upright flange member of the holder 10. The lamp holder 10 may be used for a LED lamp whilst preventing the fitting of a compact fluorescent lamp. The holder 10 and lamp base 32 may be similar to those of a GR10q fitting.

Description

A LAW HOLDER
The present Invention relates generally to a lamp holder and particularly to a dedicated lamp holder which only allows fitting with certain lamp (such as tED or fluorescent) bases. A lamp base whIch is compatible with the lamp holder Is also provided.
Accoiding to a first aspect there Is provided a lamp holder comprising means for preventing accidental fitting of an otherwise physically compatible but electrically non-compatible lamp thereto.
A further aspect provides an LED lamp holder comprising means for preventing accidental fitting of a compact fluorescent lamp thereto.
A further aspect provides an LED lamp holder of the type for receiving a GR1Oq lamp base, the holder comprising means for preventing accidental fitting of a GR1OQ compact fluorescent lamp thereto.
The means may effectively change the shape of the lamp base before receMng area.
The means may comprise a dedicated feature forming part of the socket which receives a lamp base.
The means may comprise a pillar or the like.
A further aspect provides a dedicated version of the lamp holder base type GR1Oq which only allows the Kosnic KLED12S1D/4P ----range of lamps to be fitted.
The present invention also provides a dedicated version of the lamp holder base type GR1Oq Idesignated the GR1Oq-F35] which only allows the Kosnic KLED12STD/4P ----LED range to be fitted.
The Kosnic KLED12STD/4P ----range of LED lamps was designed to fit directly into the lamp holder base type GR1Oq to be a LED direct replacement for the 2D compact fluorescent lamp.
The GR1Oq-F35 is an embodiment of the invention which is a dedicated version of the lamp holder base type GR1Oq. It is physically and electrically the same as the standard GR1Oq but has a vertical pillar mounted on the side of the lamp-holder, on to which the lamp unit fits, to prevent the accident placing of a standard 2D GR1Oq compact fluorescent lamp on to it.
The following manufacturers' 2D four pin lamps could not be accidently fitted into the GR1Oq-F35 lamp holder base causing dangerous situation: [1] Philips: GR1Oq 2D [2] Sylvania: 2D GR1Oq [3] G.E.: GE Biax 2D 2D GR1Oq [4] Osram: 2D GR1Oq The GR1Oq-F35 lamp holder will not allow any of the standard GR1Oq 2D lamps [fitted with EU, complaint lamp bases GR1Oq/4pin] to be located in it thus preventing any accident caused by a mismatch in the required running voltage of the lamp and that supplied by the lamp holder base.
In some embodiments the invention may be provided as a dedicated version of the lamp holder base type GR1Oq which only allows the Kosnic KLED12STD/4P ----range of lighting units to be fitted.
The present invention also provides a holder as described herein in combination with a lamp.
The present invention also provides an LED lamp comprising a base compatible with a lamp holder as described herein. The base has a complimentary form so that it can be fitted to the holder.
The present invention also provides an installation comprising one or more holders, lamps or combinations as claimed in any preceding claim.
Different aspects and embodiments of the present invention may be used separately or together.
Further particular and preferred aspects of the present invention are set out in the accompanying independent and dependent claims. Features of the dependent claims may be combined with the features of the independent claims as appropriate, and in combination other than those explicitly in the claims.
The present invention will now be more particularly described, the way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lamp holder formed according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of the holder of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a side view of the holder of Figure 1; Figure 4 is an end view of the holder of Figure 1; Figures 5 to 8 are perspective views of the holder of Figures 1 to 4 presented to an LED lamp; Figure 9 is a perspective view of the LED lamp being fitted to the holder; and Figure 10 is a perspective view of the LED lamp fitted to the holder.
Referring first to Figures 1 to 4 there is shown a lamp holder generally indicated 10, The holder 10 comprises a body 12 including a socket 14 having four female sockets 16 for receiving corresponding male pins on a lamp base. The socket 14 also includes a square recess 18 with a cylindrical pillar 19 projecting into its interior.
Adjacent the female sockets 16 on the socket 14 is an upstanding flange 20 from the centre of which extends a generally rectangular pillar 22.
In Figures 5 to 8 the holder 10 is shown presented to an LED lamp 30. The underside of the lamp 30 has a base 32. The base 32 is shaped correspondingly to the socket 14 and includes four pins 34. Crucially the base 32 includes a recess 36 which is shaped so as to be 1 5 complimentary with the pillar 22 oil the holder. If the recess 36 is riot present (as it may be oil certain similar lamps) then it can be seen that the base would not fit onto the holder socket.
Accordingly when the base is pushed onto the holder the pins 34 engage into the female sockets 16 and the pillar 22 slides down into the recess 36.
The lamp holder will not allow any lamps without the recess to be located in it. This can be used to prevent any accident caused by a mismatch in the required mnning voltage of the lamp and that supplied by the lamp holder base. For example, this can be used to prevent fitting a fluorescent lamp into a holder that is intended to receive an LED lamp.
Although illustrative embodiments of the invention have been disclosed in detail herein, with reference to the accompanying drawings, it is understood that the invention is not limited to the precise embodiments shown and that various changes and modifications can be effected therein by one skilled kt the art without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the appended daims and their equivalents.
