Abstract

A ratchet strap tensioning clip J suitable for use in holding a hook I in place at an anchoring point H while securing a load by gripping a ratchet strap G and creating tension between the clip J and the ratchet strap hook I. Preferably the clip J has a magnet B to allow the clip to be attached to vehicles. A slot D may be present to allow the clip to be adjusted to allow repositioning of lever to allow the clip J to lock onto either a single thickness of ratchet strap G or a double thickness of ratchet strap K. The ratchet strap tensioning clip J includes backing plate. A and lever clip E both secured with pin C through slots D and holes F. Levering motion of lever E allows assembled clip J to slide onto Ratchet strap G and firmly attach itself to ratchet strap G or double thickness ratchet strap K.

Description

Ratchet strap tensioning clip This invention relates to a device for holding the hook of a ratchet strap in place whilst securing a load for transport.

When a person is securing an object or objects by way of a ratchet strap, the steel hook end of the strap is liable to movement and can sometimes unhook itself form its anchor point due to its own weight and or any movement of the ratchet strap. To overcome this problem the present invention proposes a clip with a strong magnetic backing designed to slide onto a ratchet strap and hold the strap in place, to create tension at any point on the strap between a steel surface and the anchoring point of the ratchet strap hook.

The tension that will be provided on the strap between the proposed invention and the steel hook will force the hook to remain in place allowing the user the freedom to move the strap about the load without the possibility of the hook detaching itself.

Preferably all or part of the proposed invention will be coated in a rubberised or plastic type material to hold and protect the magnet it contains although the magnet may also be held in place and protected by other means, such as an adhesive or possibly engineered into the body of the invention.

The lever of the invention may adjust to different settings within the backing plate to allow the grip of different thicknesses of strap.

An example of this invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a ratchet strap and hook with the hook loosely hanging to the side of a large goods vehicle.

In figure 11, A Ratchet strap tensioning clip comprising of lever E attached to backing plate A by way of pin C through slots D and holes F. Slots 0 are cut in a fashion so as lever E may be adjusted to two different positions within backing plate A, this will allow the assembled clip J (shown in Figure 2) to clasp either single thickness strap G or double thickness strap K. In figure 6, a rear view of the proposed invention's backing plate A clearly shows a magnet B which is bonded to backing plate A and is a requirement to ensure its ability to attach itself to a magnetic surface II (shown in figure 2).

In figure 10, the movement of lever E within backing plate A is shown. This range of movement will allow its ability to slide onto strap 6 (figurel) and lock onto either single thickness strap 6 or double thickness strap K.
