Abstract

Multi component universal wheel comprising a central disc or hub 2 attachable to any of a range of wheel rims or dishes (6 fig.3) having different outer diameters. The wheel may be a spare or emergency wheel for a vehicle where the central disk or boss may have a plurality of holes 3 corresponding to a range of stub axle fixings or bolts to accommodate a variety of common vehicle designs. The central hub may have an outer flange with a plurality of fixing holes 4 to align with corresponding holes on the wheel outer, where the two components may be fixed together by releasable means such as nut and bolt (5,7 Fig.5). The wheel assembly may be used with the existing wheel nuts or fixings.

Description

DESCRIPTION
Universal Spare Wheel This invention relates to the current trend for Vehicle Manufacturers to supply vehicles without a conventional Spare Wheel/Tyre, rather they are supplied with an s aerosol repair kit and compressor, or similar apparatus in order to deal with a puncture on one of the existing wheels/tyres.
Hitherto there has been no single product available to meet the requirements of the manufacturers wide range of differing styles and stud fixings for specific radius wheels and tyres. According to the present invention there is now provided a universal or generic style of adaptor/interface wheel, which will suit the majority of manufacturers vehicles wheel types and mounting stud fixing configurations, thereby permitting the fitting of said Universal Adaptor/Interface Wheel in the event of a puncture or failure of one of the original wheels, facilitating the safe continuation of the journey temporarily until such time as the original wheel may be repaired or replaced.
The described invention 1. consists of a central hub or boss 2. with a plurality of apertures 3. so spaced and centred as to suit a plethora of differing manufacturers wheel fixing configurations. Said central hub or boss 2. may also have a further number of apertures around the outer flange 4. through which may extend a suitable number of bolts 5. A specific wheel and tyre 6. may be affixed to the central hub 2.
by means of the bolts 5. and a suitable corresponding number of nuts 7.
The resulting completed assembly 1. represents the whole of the Universal Adaptor/Interface Wheel, whilst the central hub assembly is used in all instances and variations, the wheel and tyre 6. may be of a suitable diameter so as to match the remaining wheels on the vehicle, thereby permitting the safe use of the assembly.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig 1. is a diagrammatic perspective view of the Central Hub or Boss Fig 2. is a diagrammatic cross sectional view of the Central Hub or Boss.
Fig 3. is a diagrammatic perspective view of the Wheel and Tyre.
Fig 4. is a diagrammatic cross sectional view of the Wheel and Tyre.
Fig 5 is a diagrammatic perspective view of the whole assembly comprising the Universal Spare Wheel The drawings show a Universal Spare Wheel assembly 1. suitable for use on vehicles that have not been supplied with a spare wheel as standard. The existing wheels fixing studs/bolts can be used to fix the wheel assembly to the vehicle by means of the plurality of apertures 3. to the existing axle, making the central hub or boss 2. a generic part for all vehicles.
Different vehicles have a variance of diameter tyres and wheels, the specific wheel and tyre 6. will be available in a number of different size diameters to suit existing wheel requirements, but all of the said variations will fit to the generic central hub or boss by means of the plurality of bolts 5. and nuts 7.
Whilst endeavouring in the foregoing specification to draw attention to those features of the invention believed to be of particular importance, it should be understood that the applicant claims protection in respect of any patentable feature or combination of features hereinbefore referred to and/or shown in the drawings.
whether or not particular emphasis has been placed thereon.
