Abstract

An exercise apparatus comprises a tractor tyre having a number of holes spaced circumferentially around the tread part of the tyre. Bars are provided adjacent the holes such that the bars are accessible from the outside of the tyre via the holes. Several of the holes (H, fig. 1) are of a size allowing the bars (J, fig. 5) to be used as handles, e.g. for lifting or flipping the tyre. At least one hole (K, fig. 5) is smaller, with the corresponding bar (L, fig. 5) being intended as an attachment point for accessories such as ropes (not shown) for pulling the tyre along the ground. The apparatus further comprises a rigid plate or wheel which spans the central aperture in one wall of the tyre, the plate/wheel forming a platform upon which exercises can be performed. The plate or wheel is shaped to engage with the tyre wall bead, and is fixed to the tyre using connectors which extend through the tyre and attach to a second plate/wheel in engagement with the bead of the opposing tyre wall (see fig. 1).

Description

Description of Exercise tyre.
This invention relates to a physical training aid which can be used by multiple people for multiple exercises at any one time.
When people want to increase their strength through exercise old tractor tyres have been used for basic flip over exercises for some time.
However, the exercises with a standard tyre are limited to flipping the tyre over by means of trying to grip the tyre underneath or by trying to hold on to the tread, or rolling the tyre along in a controlled manor. lack of grip is a problem both limiting those who can use the tyre and from a safety aspect. To enhance these exercises the present invention proposes an exercise tyre with a rigid centre and with apertures cut into the tyre periphery with steel bars fined within.
The rigid centre provides a base for extra alternative exercises such as step ups and press ups. The cut outs with steel bars allow a positive grip to be applied for flipping the tyre enabling less able people to attempt to flip the tyre safely. The steel bars can also be used to anchor the feet for sit up exercises. The steel bars can also be used to attach existing resistance exercise equipment such as ropes or resistance bands.
The tyre is painted externally with a flexible paint to stop the user from getting rubber residue on their hands.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Sheet 1/6 shows exploded view of tyre assembly, Sheet 2/6 shows ridged wheel centre ITEM B, Sheet 3/6 shows steel connector blocks ITEM D, Sheet 4/6 shows wheel spacer tubes ITEM C, sheet 5/6 shows tyre with cut outs ITEM (5, Sheet 6/6 shows isometric exploded view.
In sheet 1/6 the exercise tyre ITEM (3 is shown in a dismantled state to show the component parts that are combined together upon assembly to provide a rigid platform for some of the exercises that can be performed with the tyre. The bolts A pass through the wheels Band the tubular spacers C and are secured within the connectors 0 by means of the nuts and spring washers F and E respectively. When tightened the tyre 6 is locked between the wheel faces B and tubular spacers C. This provides a stable platform on both sides of the assembly that allows a wide variety of exercises to be performed on or from these surfaces.
Sheet 2/6 shows ITEM B, the wheels that have a taper M on the inside face, this face mates with the tyre wall contour, allowing this inner wheel face to clamp the tyre 6 to the tubular spacers C. Sheet 3/6 shows the steel connector blocks ITEM 0 in detail.
Sheet 4/6 shows the tubular spacers ITEM C in detail. The cut out N is the aperture through which the nuts are tightened on assembly to clamp the wheels B to the tyre 6. The tightening process is performed through the apertures in the tyre wall prior to the steel bars being fitted. The profile cut out 0 is the same on both ends and matches the inner wall profile of tyre 6, the distance between profile 0 and end P is critical, this is so that the tyre 6 is clamped firmly between face 0 and the angled face M sheet 2/6 of the wheel, while face P is clamped against face Qof the wheel sheet 2/6.
Sheet 5/6 shows an alternative embodiment in which the tyre ITEM 6 is shown in various views. The left and right hand views demonstrate the position of the 4 cut outs H with the steel bars J fitted as integral parts. Each pair of handles can be used to flip the tyre over and over with relevant ease due to the positioning of the bars which are used as lifting handles. These bars J are also positioned to allow feet to be anchored under them for sit ups. The top view shows cut out K with steel bar Las an integral part, this cut out is the anchor point for exercise ropes or other resistance equipment. This configuration is noticeable smaller than the other cut outs H, this is to maintain the rigidity of the tyres original structure, this rigidity is needed because of the use of this feature as an anchor point.
The tyre 6 is painted with flexible paint to seal the original rubber this also helps prevent both marking of floors and soiling of hands and clothing.
Sheet 6/6 shows an isometric exploded view of the assembly.
